Not happy at all about upcoming Friday night Big 10 football games :(
Why on earth does the Big 10 need to schedule Friday nite football? It's not as if the conference is lacking for a fan base and between ESPN & the Big 10 network all Saturday games are broadcast live. why start with this Friday nite garbage and compete with High School football?

HS Coaches will not be happy at all. Northwestern has both a road (at MD 10/13) and a Home (MSU 10/27) Friday nite game. Will be rough for attendance. Not that many NU fans would be traveling to Maryland for the raod game but definitely none will be for a FridIay game and far fewer MSU fans will make it to Evanston for a Friday game.

On top of that, the iHSA football playoffs begin on 10/27 so anyone who has a child playing in a HS playoff game will also not attend and with 8 classes having 32 teams each in Illinois along, that is a heck of alot of fans you are excluding from attending.

I can understand moving a Labor Day weekend game from Saturday to a Thurs or Friday nite as lots of people have holiday weekend plans or perhaps moving a Thanksgiving weekend Saturday game to Friday since nearly eveyrone has Friday after Tday off but playing 2 of 12 games on Friday is not smart.

The networks wanted the Big Ten on Friday nights and so they agreed to it. The Big Ten is getting compensated very well for it. As a Penn State fan, I wouldn't want to host a Friday game but playing one opening weekend every now and then wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I like that it will start conference play earlier and allow more non-conference games throughout the season.

I would not want to be a big 10 coach trying to make inroads into a big time HS program now that the HS"s know the Big 10 is playing friday nite football in competition with High School. If I were Iowa State, Mizzou or ND's recruiters I would use that to my advantage with HS coaches all over the region.

I'm sure they will use it, but I'm not sure how much difference it will really make.

So it looks like all but 1 of the Friday night conference games have been moved to Saturday. The only remaining conference game on a Friday night is Nebraska at Illinois (9/29). Northwestern had two Friday night conference games moved to Saturday. One was at Maryland and the other was hosting Michigan State. 3 non-conference Friday night games remain but are in the first two month of the season.

So how much is this going to cost the Big Ten? This reduction in Friday games is going to reduce the money it is getting from tv, right?

Maybe a little bit is my guess but probably(?) not much. What this is doing is taking away 2 of the 6 original games scheduled. The two games are conference games and so will likely end up on BTN now instead of ESPN (?) or something more primetime.

There are still 4 games scheduled for a Friday which will probably get highlighted somewhere. 9/1 has 2 games where a B1G team plays. I'll be interested to see who gets top billing.

Friday night games are :

Fri., Sept. 1 Washington at Rutgers
Fri., Sept. 1 Utah State at Wisconsin
Fri., Sept. 8 Ohio at Purdue
Fri., Sept. 29 Nebraska at Illinois

I will. Less than 2 weeks after I start this thread, the conference eliminated nearly all Friday Night games. Not only the power of this board but the speed at which the Conference changed the schedule. Gotta love it! 04-cheers01-ncaabbs

I have never understood the need for the Big 10 to schedule Friday nite games. Smaller lesser known leagues or FCS programs I get it, they need the exposure; the B10 does not have that problem.
