Frankly I would not take Cook. Yes, he is a threat to take it to the end zone every time he touches the ball but I don't think he cuts nearly well enough to make guys miss in the NFL and won't be able to create his own long run opportunities nearly as often as a guy like Mixon.
Hard to weigh battery incidents from each, but that is why they are still on the board Although Cook's charges were dropped and Mixons were from three years ago. Could be win big or lose big on each.
If Forest Lamp is still on the board I think you have to take him. Seriously powerful lineman that can play Guard, Tackle or CENTER. Not likely an NFL starter at Tackle, but could be a rock solid G or Center with some development. I would train him at Center to replace Bodine, the worst thing that can happen if it doesn't work out is you end up with a high caliber, versatile Guard. The Bengal line needs serious help.
Lamp and Robinson would probably top my Day 2 board too for the Bengals, but I don't see either lasting to 41. The espn/Scouts draft I mentioned earlier has Cook as the first pick (#33) followed by Robinson going at 34 and Lamp at 35.
The other knock about Cook that I've heard, but don't have the data handy, is that for all his gifts running the ball, he has trouble holding onto it. That's obviously a big deal for any team, but could especially turn off the Bengals. I could see the Bengals taking Mixon even if Cook is still on the board (which is unlikely).

I really like Alvin Kamara as well, especially if they want to go OL in Round 2 which surely they are going to seriously consider. He could possibly be someone who could be there in Round 3. He's a terrific receiver out of the backfield but also durable. He's a quicker, more explosive version of Bernard IMO.

RE: Bengals and the 2017 NFL Draft
If the Bengals had stones they'd give a kings ransome to Green Bay to take Robinson. Then again, would not be surprised if he gets taken at 33 or 34.
It's a little shocking he did not go in round 1 and some teams reached for guys instead. Dude could end up being Willie Anderson good.

Yeah I can't believe he fell out of the first round. He could be a great Tackle or even interior guy if need be.

Saban says he's the best offensive lineman he's had - definitely at Alabama. Saban is not prone to wild ass coach speak, either.
The guy is an absolute monster and still surprisingly fast. I had forgotten about Robinson. Yes I assume he will be gone and Lamp as well. But if either are there I would be pleased as hell with Robinson. Hell trade up and get them both, we need two.
Truth be told I hope to hell one drops down and the Bengals are forced to take a lineman.
The Bengals have a tremendously sh*tty track record with taking guys like Mixon and paying dearly for it in the end. This is no questionably motivated, troubled but talented guy like Vontaze Burfict. Mixon smashed a chick square in the face and broke several of her bones.
He may be the best RB in the draft and there are a lot of teams that won't draft him under any circumstances. The irony is that if the Bengals don't take him at Pick 2 they are very likely to have another shot at him in round 3 or even 4.

After starting 44 games in a row and never missing a game at Alabama doe to anything he had a shoulder issue that kept him from doing the bench press at the combine. Scouts are such a bunch of putz's.
That kid you draft and forget about it.

Some think Kamara is the second or third best RB in the pool. I gotta admit I don't know much about him.
But you have to give him some extra credit. TN does not exactly have a dominating, hole gashing, SEC line. And yet you gotta run at a fleet of future NFL defenders.
The Bengals need a speedy out of the backfield pass catcher / runner combo for sure. Especially when you consider our weakened offensive line protection
Dalton is going to have to go back to running the quick hit, spread he ran at TCU. The guy is going to get about 1.9 seconds to get rid of the ball before someone is on top of him.

RE: Bengals and the 2017 NFL Draft
Interesting report on the Bengals internal thinking and debate in R1 on their website. Ross and Howard were "neck-and-neck" for #9.
Inside the pick: good timing
If the Bengals want Cook/Mixon/Kamara I think they have to do it in R2. Anything can happen, but I don' t see any of them lasting to the Bengals in R3.

RE: Bengals and the 2017 NFL Draft
mmqb Day 2 mock:
35 Lamp
39 Cook
40 Robinson
41 Mixon to the Bengals
43 Kamara
73 Cincinnati Bengals: Ethan Pocic, C, LSU
BTW, here's their take on R1 (different writer):
Quote:9. Cincinnati Bengals: John Ross, WR, Washington
You’ve probably heard that you can’t coach speed. You also can’t defend it when it’s employed opposite A.J. Green. Defenses very well may keep two safeties back at all times, which would help fix running back Jeremy Hill’s perplexing problems. The rest of Ross’s game may well be more refined than what meets the eye. If it’s not, at least he’s joining a team whose receivers are some of the best-coached in football.

Makes zero sense when Marv just said we had too many picks to roster as is.

Funny how the analyst on ESPN said this pick was made by Mike Brown, just like their first pick Ross was made by Mike Brown. Classic.
