Liberty Announces 2018 Schedule, 12 Future FBS Opponents
The Liberty Flames have announced their 2018 football schedule plus 12 additional future football opponents.

The announcement was made on Saturday during Liberty’s Commencement Weekend. President Donald J. Trump spoke to Liberty’s 2017 graduating class and was the first to reveal many of the opponents.

Liberty will open the 2018 season at home on Sept. 1 against the Old Dominion Monarchs. Other home games scheduled include Norfolk State, North Texas, Troy, Idaho State, and New Mexico State.

Road games for the Flames include Army, New Mexico, New Mexico State, UMass, Virginia, and Auburn.

Liberty and New Mexico State will play an in-season home-and-home series in 2018 and 2019. The two schools will meet in Las Cruces and Lynchburg in both seasons.

Among the future football opponents added for 2019 and beyond, two are from the SEC (Auburn and Ole Miss), three are from the ACC (Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest), and one is from the Big Ten (Rutgers).

Liberty is currently transitioning from the FCS and will move up to the FBS as an Independent beginning with the 2018 season. The Flames will be eligible to play in a bowl game following the 2019 season.

Their 2018 schedule is very ambitious, more-so given they're a pretty average FCS team right now. I get the if you build it they will come thing, but they could have a lot of blowouts that make it hard to attract people and sell tickets.
