Reading a thread on the main CUSA board and I'm glad we have a radio guy and a "backup" with Duggan.. A couple others teams fans were saying there's been games where they had no radio... maybe a video feed but with no play by play or anything. Marshall fans said they didn't this weekend vs Charlotte because a majority of their staff members went to their softball regional in Kentucky so therefore they had no one to do radio.

I'm all for letting some broadcast majors call games. Great experience for them before going into their career field. Some that I have heard are really good--better than Cox.

That UTSA kid needs to choose a different career field.

I'm not making fun of him. That **** is hard, especially for an 18/19 year old. I did color commentary for football for a season in college and was freaking awful. I had no training and I'm sure that and experience helps but there's a certain trait where "you got it" or "you don't got it" that becomes evident.

Ah, yes, color commentary----

Tried it some myself when my wife managed some radio stations, and when stuff on the field is happening real fast in football, you immediately forget all the cliches, the stats and nomenclature you use to remember in a flash!

Baseball is even harder, since you gotta call the game while keeping up with the count, what kinda pitch it is (just say "fastball in for a strike") and what the heck 1 to 3 to 2 is (among a brazillion other things)..

So no one thinks Juan Cocks doesn't have a tough job, it's the "intercepted but dropped" and the "way way baaaack back back looks like it's gonna be outta here.....it's caught on the warning track" stuff that drives one crazy.04-cheers
