I mentioned it in the post above, you can turn off providers that require Captcha. You can always just cancel those and wait for them to go to the next stream on the list but it’s less annoying to get rid of them altogether.

Depending on which repository you got Exodus from it may be outdated. Fantastic has sort of replaced it as the new go to.

It’s a pretty repetitive process to get add-ons. Once you’ve done a few it becomes pretty easy. Here’s a link for a specific add-on but all you have to do is find the url of the add-on you want and replace it.

Has anybody tried one of the Ares Wizard's alternatives?

It's too bad Ares Wizard was shut down. It did all the work for you in minutes

You can try some of these:
http://www.wirelesshack.org/top-best-wor...d-ons.html

As far as the wife and even saving yourself time, it’s easier if you declutter the main screen. You really only need the Addons, Favorites and Settings tabs. The Weather, Radio, Picture, etc can all be eliminated by going into Settings and disabling them on the Home Layout. I change the skin to Amber. It’s a more visually appealing background.

Also, save some time if she or you have a list of favorite shows/movies or ones you anticipate watching and add them to Favorites. After you search for them once through Fantastic/Exodus and find the particular show/ movie, click the button that looks like 3 lines and scroll down to add to Favorites. Now all you have to do is click Favorites and choose whatever you want to watch.

You can play around with the particular addons once you feel comfortable to where you can turn off the streams that ask for Captcha and lower the search time (after 20 seconds you’ve usually found the highest quality streams from the most reliable sources). It’s usually under the Tools section if you scroll down after opening the add-on.

Seems like a lot of info but the more you get comfortable with it it becomes like scrolling through a cable guide to find something.

Seriously. Thanks so much for all of this info. I’m sure I just need to learn it and it’ll be well worth it.

Alright so I took your advice and cleaned up the main screen and added shows to favorites and that was a huge help. Thank you.

Also I added fantastic and deleted exodus(was it necessary to delete exodus?). So after that I’m trying to get caught up on Better Call Saul season three. And after selecting season 3 episode 1 it only finds 9 streams(?) and none of them are HD. What’s up with that? And it seems like for a pretty popular show there would be more than 9 streams(hosts?) available. Or is that wrong to think on my part. I ended up watching one and the format seemed better than what I remember SD to be.

Adding a bit to my question about deleting exodus, when I add a show in my favorites, which add on does it come from? Does it even matter?

And while I’m at it what’s the difference between an add on and a repository?

Also this is embarrassing and I feel like I’m in high school trying to explain Limewire to my mother. But now I’m my mother.

RE: Amazon Firestick
The repository is just the name for whoever is hosting the add on. So more than one place has the Exodus addon available. Some repositories get shut down or stop updating so their copy of Exodus won’t work as well as a newer repository.

It doesn’t hurt to delete an add-on if you find it to be slow or not working. You just need to do a google search and you can usually find the newest, most updated version of the add-on and the url to “add source”.

As far as finding good hosts, you are usually at the mercy of the host. So you might only find 9 streams of a particular episode. One thing you can do is clear providers and your cache under the tools section of the add-on. That will help refresh and sometimes helps find some more sources.

Your Favorites will come from whichever add-on you are searching in when you add to Favorites. You can always delete a favorite and add it from a different add-on.

No. Follow the link that BearcaynKY posted above. It’s very easy.

But I’ll say even with the brand new firetv, which is essentially a beefed up fire stick, I’ve had issues streaming from Kodi. I had Kodi on a fire stick years ago and it was brutal.

Bump

Is there anything new out there that works well with FireTV or the regular Firestick?

Looking to cut cable and going the streaming route as well...everybody seems to have a favorite between Playstation Vue, Sling TV, Youtube TV, DirectTV Now or Hulu live? Is one of these streaming services significantly better than the rest? With multiple kids in sports and busy with work, usually only watch Netflix and/or live sporting events.

Thanks!

I recently switched from PS Vue to YouTube TV. Quality seems pretty similar to me but YouTube was $5 cheaper for similar package where I could get all my sports channels I needed. Plus they've got all 4 local networks plus Star 64. Not that I minded using an antenna but it's nice to be able to DVR if I'm not home.

Can't speak to Fire compatibility since I'm a Roku user.

X2 on YouTubeTV. I've had it since Feb and wouldn't trade it for anything right now. Has all of the main sports channels UC will be on already included in the base package.

I do believe you'll have to rig up a "hacked" workaround for the Amazon products, though - so maybe this isn't your best bet. I'm also a Roku user. If you're curious, try Googling YouTubeTV on Fire TV and there are a few articles.

If you don't want to mess with that, I would either buy a Roku or pick something else.

RE: Amazon Firestick
I guess I never answered the original question but when I was on Vue I did sign in on my mom's Fire TV and I really like the interface. If you're streaming live TV you'll want the processing power of the box vs the stick. But I'll throw another plug for Roku. I've had mine for a few years and it works great. All the streaming services offer trials though. I'd just download them one by one and see what works for you.

Awesome, thanks for all the responses! A person at work said they ditched cable and picked YouTubeTV and wish they made the switch sooner. Said that and Netflix cut the bill almost in half (still need the high speed internet).

I'll echo what some others have said above. Roku's interface and access to apps are second to none. Essentially all of the providers for streaming have apps through the Roku Channel Store. I've heard that Amazon's interface is good, but I don't like that they block some apps by limiting you to their store. I just don't want to be dependent upon a single provider, so I find a lot more flexibility with Roku. You can also get a good 4k box with the $50 streaming stick, and if you go with certain services they'll give you the box for free (I think Sling was offering a Roku Ultra if you prepaid two months).

Good luck!

I have had great results with YouTube TV ....all the local and cable channels I use. I find it the best for having most of the sports networks except NFL but many of the Thursday night games are picked up on a local channel. Simple to record things and very easy to pause service for a period of time.

I still love YouTube TV but you won't get AE, MTV, Bravo with it. Some of the other live TV streaming services may have those but youd likely be looking at a higher rate.

I tell everyone that going to live TV streaming will require giving something up but for me personally I am getting probably 90% of what I used to watch on DirecTV for less than half what I was paying when I dropped satellite 3 years ago. I can honestly say I've never regretted it or considered going back.

This is a couple of months old but I'd suggest it as a good resource to understand your options:

Cutting the Cord: Alternatives to Cable and Satellite TV

or if you just want a breakdown of the streaming services:

Streaming TV May Not Be the Cable Replacement You Hoped For

Or if you just want a simple answer and don't like to read, since you already are using spectrum and presumably will still use it for the internet, here's an idea from the comments that I presume is available here too:

Quote:I have found that the app spectrum is the best you can do out there all I have is Wi-Fi and then I pay $21.95 a month for the spectrum app on my smart TV's I get everything I need it's just like cable even on demand. No wires. And I have one time purchase the roku ultra for my non smart TV's.

And if you don't have all smart TVs, Amazon is currently offering the 4K Firestick for $25 to many buyers.

BTW, the wirecutter site itself is terrific. I use it before making almost any buying decision.

Thanks for all info on Youtube TV and streaming Spectrum

I disconnected from Spectrum today. felt good, i have been wanting to tell them to pound sand for awhile

I signed up for Youtube TV. Looks good so far

When you set up shows to record- does Youtube TV give you an option to record new shows only?

I bought Roku’s not realizing you can jailbreak Youtube TV app on Firestick

Sidenote- anybody looking to watching games or Pay Per View
check out crackstreams. * Caution- I dont know if the site has malware. i do it from an old ipad i am not worried about if it downloads something
