Top 100 comedies of all time
Most I agree with but 2 were visible by their absence: Caddyshack, Bill Murray at his finest and certainly the best golf movie ever. Also, one that has to be in the top 10 on this list, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World with one of the greatest casts ever assembled and a hilarious storyline from Jimmy Durante kicking the bucket, literally, to Ethel Merman sliding on a banana peel. If you have never seen this, you are missing greatness.

Personally, I'm trying to figure out how Pulp Fiction is a "comedy." Yes, it has some funny scenes and some funny dialogue..but comedy status?

From the comedies I like and consider top tier and in looking at some of the other titles listed....

Talladega Nights?
--I can watch this over and over again and never get tired of it. Especially considering some of the other Will Ferrell movies listed.

Spaceballs?
--Probably the best Star Wars spoof out there. And in looking at some of the other Mel Brooks movies that made the cut... how did this one not make it?

Spaceballs, Robin Hood:Men In Tights, Encino Men, George of The Jungle, Walk Like A Men, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and several more are missing.

Harlem Nights is a great classic comedy from three great comedians. Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx.

Stir Crazy, Every Which Way But Loose, The End, History of the World and many others.

Pretty interesting read.... I've seen quite a few of them myself.

Interesting list.

Find it hard to take anything serious that has When Harry Met Sally rated above Caddyshack and Animal House.

My Top Ten

1)Animal House
2)Caddyshack
3)Airplane!
4)Blazing Saddles
5)Something About Mary
6)Young Frankenstein
7)Naked Gun
8)South Park
9)Stripes
10)Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Adding to that list.... I know it's raunchy and totally un-PC but....

Porky's

I laughed my a** off.

Throw Mamma from The Train was funny.

Goonies was also funny.

Scary Movie when one of the sequels had an alien who greets people by putting their finger in the other person's mouth and move it like a toothbrush. Leslie Nielsen's President character asked them how they pee, and one of the other aliens showed them that they use their same finger to greet others pissing at the end of the finger tip. Charlie Sheen had to take the alien's finger out of his mouth, and spitting, using a toothbrush to clean his mouth and using mouthwash to get his mouth clean.

Scary Movie 1 and 2 were ok...but in no way would they ever make a top 100 comedy ranking.

What???? The Jerk was only #99?

I get that this is a huge historical component to this list - there are a lot of movies here that are [much] older than most of us posting so the perspective is different, but The Jerk is an absolute all-time top 20 and so is Caddyshack. I suppose most of the list is arguable but those two movies are the most egregiously underrated IMO (When Harry met Sally is better than those two - UH - NO!)

RE: Top 100 comedies of all time
I won't suggest it should be on anybody else's list, but I loved 1941. I don't usually love movies everyone else hates, or vice versa, but for some reason this one hits me right in the sweet spot. It helps that it came out when I was a teenager - it was raunchy, completely politically incorrect, and had a bunch of the top comedians of the day. Many say Spielberg tried to do too much but for me it was just right. Now, decades later, I still love it but I don't know if that's nostalgia or genuine affection. Doesn't matter.

John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, John Candy, Tim Matheson were of course heroes in 1979, but the rest of the cast was amazing as well: Robert Stack, Ned Beatty, Slim Pickens, Christopher Lee, Treat Williams and a host of others. And the soundtrack is also one of my all time favorites (John Williams of course).
