5 dimes had us as a 3.5 favorite to start, then we went to 5.5, then they pulled it. Massey has us a touchdown favorite.
Damn it, that would have been easier money than fanhoods.

I'll bet signatures with anyone on here giving JMU "two scores". Loser has to let winner create their "mod approved" signature til end of the year. I'll even take fewer points than Grad07's blithe 14 point nonsense. 10 points. Anyone?

short summary :
ecu won 3 games last year and now replacing its qb, top 2 wr, top 2rbs...but also gained a ton in grad tranfers
jmu: won the fcs national championship last season and are the favorite to do it again this year

I think this is a win for us; not easy, but a win.
I do dread the start of the season though.

A major league team had a down year.
A little league team won it's championship.
That's about it really.

That line of thinking is just silly and shows a lack of knowledge when it comes to D1 football. The best teams in FCS are in the top half of D1 football. NDSU and JMU have proven the ability to beat GOOD FBS teams. If ECU was playing 98% of FCS I'd say they win but they're stuck with one of two teams that can flat out ball (NDSU being the other) and know they can. Like NDSU in their FBS contests, the Dukes expect to win this game. That's rarely the case in FCS/FBS games.

JMU is very good and can come in and shut this up in a hurry. The team better be more realistic than what's being said here.

I hope that ECU wins this game. I like ECU as a program and want to see them back in form.

As someone that has season tickets to an FCS program, I can tell you that this is not the case. The Top 10 to Top 15 teams in the FCS have starting lineups that are similar to many G5 programs, and some lower end P5 teams. The difference is the two-deep.

Average D-Lineman:

ECU - 6'4", 271
Obviously the above doesn't account for speed, quickness, skill, etc; but it does show how small JMU is compared to ECU.
Better visual:
ECU O-Lineman: 6'4", 315
JMU D-Lineman: 6'3", 257
Difference: 1" and ~60lbs
JMU O-Lineman: 6'5", 285
ECU D-Lineman: 6'4", 271
Difference: 1" and ~15lbs
JMU starting O-Line is: 6'4", 305
JMU starting D-Line is: 6'4", 257
With having less scholarships, we often take some OL players that still have to put on weight. Until our 2 deep comes out, this is our projected starters
Stephen Igoe's projected ECU lineup with stats from ECU's 2017 Football Roster:
LT #1 D'Ante Smith (So. 6'4" 336) #2 Messiah Rice (Jr. 6'5" 294)
LG #1 Cortez Herrin (So. 6'3" 346) #2 Des Barmore (Jr. 6'6" 333)
C #1 Garrett McGhin (Jr. 6'6" 327) #2 Branden Pena (Jr. 6'2" 286)
RG #1 Austin Lee (RS-Fr. 6'1" 287) #2 Dqmarcus Shaw (Jr. 6'4" 316)
RT #1 Brandon Smith (Sr. 6'8" 327) #2 Justin Sandifer (Sr. 6'5" 295)
DE #1 Kendall Futrell (So. 6'4" 230) #2 Taijh Alston (Fr. 6'4" 212) #3 Chandon Hickerson (Fr. 6'5" 275)
DT #1 Alex Turner (So. 6'2" 287) #2 Jalen Price (So. 6'2" 299) #3 Tyree Owens (Jr. 6'4" 285) OR Raequan Purvis (Fr. 6'2" 278)
DT #1 Demage Bailey (Sr. 6'5" 294) #2 Brandon Henderson (Jr. 6'5" 275) #3 Mike Myers (Sr. 6'0" 283) OR Shaun James (Jr. 6'4" 274)
DE #1 Kiante Anderson (Sr. 6'4" 243) #2 Gaelin Elmore (Grad. 6'6" 275) #3 Randall Anderson (Sr. 6'4" 257)
ECU Starting O-Line 6'4" 325
ECU Starting D-Line 6'4" 264
ECU's D has some nice size backups. Expect a lot of rotation. Let's hope the O-Line is vastly improved this year.
FWIW, I used the players on the 2-deep for week one released by ECU and an unofficial summer 2-deep I found for JMU.

I personally think this will be a really close game with JMU having a great chance to win. I love Schor and the Duke's ability to attack in space. Houston is a helluva coach and will have his team prepared to win. He took The Citadel into Columbia, SC two years ago and left with a win over the Gamecocks.
ECU better get ready for the streamers the Duke fans will bring!
Please don't call them Duke fans, lol.

ECU has won 25 games in a row and is 25-1 all time vs FCS (or 1-AA) teams as an FBS (or 1-A) member.

The loss was to EKU in 1980, I believe.

A few more random notes I found interesting:
ECU AD Jeff Compher played football at and graduated from JMU in 1980...
The JMU OC is former ECU asst. coach Donnie Kirkpatrick...
JMU's cornerbacks coach Tripp Weaver is a 2012 ECU grad...
JMU director of FB admin Dale Steele was in a similar position at ECU from 2013-15, and was WR coach during the Bill Lewis/Steve Logan years (including our #9 nationally ranked 1991 team).
