Atlantic versus Coastal
I thought I'd keep track as we go along of the results of the inter-division games. So far, the only result is Louisville 47 UNC 35, so the Atlantic leads 1-0.

Sadly too small of a sample yearly to mean much.

I wish each team could have 3-4 every year rivals and rotate through the others more often

Agreed, the only teams that I would prefer Pitt to play every year are Syracuse, VT, and Miami. The rest can rotate.

Agree. There are only 14 crossover games a year. Last year, the Coastal won 8-6. In 2015 it was Coastal 10 - Atlantic 4. But what does that tell us? I don't think many fans would say that's evidence that the Coastal is the stronger division.

Between 2015 and 2016, Clemson and Louisville went 3-1 against the Coastal. Florida State was 2-2, while State and Wake went 1-3. Syracuse and BC were a dismal 0-4 each.

Offsetting BC and Cuse were Va Tech and Pitt (both went 4-0). UNC was 3-1. Only Miami had a losing record (1-3), while Ga Tech, Virginia and Duke split their games.

All that suggests is that the Atlantic division is top heavy. But didn't we already know that?

Why wouldn't that be evidence the Coastal is stronger? You're sorta making a "Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes" argument.

Define "stronger". Is it...
...average strength?
...depth of teams?
...most likely to win the conference?

Coastal wins the first 2 but NOT the 3rd.

Syracuse actually would have gone 1-3 against the coastal, beating VT last season.

RE: Atlantic versus Coastal
You are correct. My bad. That evens the tally at 7-7 last year, and leaves Pitt as the only school to go 4-0 the past two years.

To update, after the Clemson win over Va. Tech, the Atlantic now leads the Coastal 2-0.

The Atlantic won one yesterday -- Syracuse over Pitt -- while the Coastal won two -- Va. Tech over BC and Miami over FSU. The Atlantic leads 3-2.

NCSU beat Pitt and FSU beat Duke, so the Atlantic now leads the Coastal 5-2. Next week's matchups may be more favorable to the Coastal.

RE: Atlantic versus Coastal
Ga Tech beat WFU and Miami beat Syracuse but U.Va cratered versus BC so the Atlantic leads the Coastal 6-4 with 4 regular season games and the championship game to go.

RE: Atlantic versus Coastal
With Clemson's win over Ga.Tech, the Atlantic now leads the Coastal 7-4 with 4 games remaining including the championship game.

This season even though FSU and Louisville are way off their usual form, NCSU, WFU, Syracuse and BC are much better than usual. Overall, I'd say this is the Atlantic's best year ever.

I forgot to reup this after Louisville beat U.Va. The Atlantic now leads 8-4 with three games remaining, including the championship game. We've got Duke at WFU and UNC at NCSU next week and Miami-Clemson the week after that.

Duke beat WFU and NCSU beat UNC today. The regular season ends with the Atlantic leading the Coastal 9-5.
