Oklahoma-Ohio State #2, but not even top 10 last year.

yeah but would have been really close- looks like #12.

This year looks like it's gotten off to a much slower start than last year. Last year 1st 2 weeks had 6 games over 5.7 million viewers. This year only 3 so far. And week 3 had 3 more games last year like that. This year not sure we'll add many more than the 3 we have- maybe Texas/USC or Clemson/Louisville get above that- but it's questionable.

it my be a bleak year for the Pac 12 TV wise. I mean, they have right now 5 ranked teams which is great- but of those 5- 2 are in the top 20. Those 2 don't play each other. 3 of the more interesting games are Friday night games at 10:30 or 9:30 et. USC/Wash St, UCLA/Utah, and Wash/Stan.

Note that comps from last week to prior years will be off substantially because of Hurricane Irma. It won't really be apples-to-apples for any NFL week 1 or college football week 2 ratings from prior years.

i dunno. The Oklahoma/Ohio St game drew better ratings than any non opening week September game since 2011.

RE: 2017 Top Rated College Football games
so looking at the top ratings since 2010-
28 games got at least 10 million viewers....

no shock- SEC was in 19 of those.

15 of the 28 games were Alabama games.

to put this number in perspective. If you take the slots of all the other conferences plus Notre Dame combined- that equals the number of games the SEC had. (counting conference games 2x for both slots).

Curious to see numbers at the end of the year on a week by week basis....

Is the cumulative of prime time last week with the four best games all on at the same time better than rankings for other weeks?

Likewise does a week with only 1 big game on in primetime blow Ohio St-Oklahoma out of the water

For example....Does USC/Texas this weekend draw a bigger rating than USC/Stanford? My guess is yes even though Stanford was a better "game" on paper, Texas is a bigger name and there is less competition on at the same time.

i don't think USC/Texas will draw a big rating. For one, inexplicably Fox has the game starting at 830 instead of 8, and that'll hurt the ratings to some degree I think. Also, ABC has a really good game with Clemson/Louisville. It'll get better than USC/Stanford did- but then again- almost anything would.

I agree with both statements, I also meant more it is going up against 1 big game instead of 3.

updated thru week 3.....

interestingly the official numbers have the Texas/USC game #3, not #1 as Fox's mouthpiece claimed. Go figure.

RE: 2017 Top Rated College Football games
Major TV games schedule for week 4 (OTA + ESPN ... no other networks have shown yet that they can make it to the top 10):

Noon slot -- NC St at FSU (ABC/ESPN2 split), TX Tech at Houston (ABC/ESPN2 split), TA&M at Ark (ESPN)
Afternoon slot -- Alabama at Vandy (CBS), USC at Cal (ABC), TCU at Okla St (ESPN), Michigan at Purdue (FOX)
Evening slot -- Miss St at Georgia (ESPN), Penn St at Iowa (ABC), Notre Dame at Mich St (FOX)
Late slot -- UCLA at Stanford (ESPN)

- Might seem odd that CBS didn't choose MSU at UGA, with both teams being ranked, 3-0, and having a quality P5 win ... until you read stever's post #11 in this thread and see just how dominate Alabama is in the ratings game. On the other hand, not sure how much power CBS has to dictate game times in the SEC? Maybe the MSU/UGA game was already set for an evening time and CBS needed an afternoon game only? Don't know

- Prediction for top viewership game this week: Alabama/Vandy or Penn St/Iowa
- seems up for grabs, as there are no blockbuster matchups of top brands. And we know that west coast people just won't watch college football on TV like folks do east of the Mississippi

I believe the games were chosen prior to last Saturday- meaning the huge MSU upset win over LSU wasn't factored in. You can totally understand it. Also, Vandy coming off an upset win of their own.

Correct. The vast majority game times and networks are selected 12 days out, but network have negotiated "six day windows", but typically save those for November. Example: ESPN and FOX each have two, "six day windows" under their Pac-12 agreement.

I read somewhere that the early numbers showed Texas/USC ahead of Clemson/Louisville, but the final numbers put CU/UL on top.

RE: 2017 Top Rated College Football games
Penn St/Iowa shows up at #4 on the list. Kind of interesting as I do not think it was the #1 selection of the weekend(ND/Mich St was)- but it blew it out. Heck, the Michigan/Purdue game beat ND/Mich St.

So far- Big Ten ABC/ESPN with a HUGE lead. They have 5 games with better ratings than the top Fox game. Even games like Pitt/Penn St(I still don't understand Fox not picking that one up) and Cincy/Michigan have beaten everything fox aired so far. Just looking so far- both ABC/ESPN and Fox/FS1 have had 8 games. looking at the total viewers is striking... ABC 29.316 million. Fox 13.704 million. And ABC has #1 selections coming up- they have 1 next weekend for sure when they get Michigan/Michigan St(while Fox gets Maryland/Ohio St).
