It is amazing. I remember listening to one of their broadcasts because I was out of range of a Duke station (Duke/UNC football game about a decade or so ago) and the color guy who went to the Panthers was talking to Woody's wife about Wes at GT, and he asked her who she listened to when Carolina played GT (with a tone that indicated he expected her to say Woody) and she crossed him up and said "Why Wes of course, I have to hear Woody all the time".

What about Dave Rowe???

The RSN crew that we had for the Kent State game on Saturday was probably the best we ever gotten from Fox. Wes Durham was excellent.

Bates is a Gator, but other than that I like him.

I don’t really care who the lead broadcasters are for the new ACC Network. They seem to really like Wes Durham, so him and whomever are fine, I guess.

I just wish that we were made to feel more like an actual member. That means please quit calling us “Pittsburgh.” We are not “Pittsburgh,” we are “Pitt.” For 100 years, everyone who is familiar with us calls us “Pitt.” The only people who called us “Pittsburgh” – aside from one moronic athletic director – were fans in the other parts of the country who were not familiar with us.

As an aside, don’t call our professional teams “Pitt.” That nickname is reserved specifically for the city's namesake university. Again, it is weird to hear people talking about a Steelers/Ravens game and say, “I was rooting for Pitt.” No, no you were not. “Pitt” is the name of the college team only. The professional team is called “Pittsburgh” or the “Steelers.”

It’s really weird to be watching your own conference’s Game of the Week and they’re calling you by your formal name. It would be like the SEC Network calling the team in Baton Rouge, “Louisiana State,” instead of by their preferred “LSU.” It’s no big deal but it is weird.

It’s also pretty funny how all of the analysis as of the other team. We played Georgia Tech on Saturday and they are way better than we are this year. However, there could’ve been some attempt made at analyzing both teams. The sideline reporter, DJ Shockley, who oddly enough went to Georgia, actually said at halftime, “We are up at the half, but who knows what will happen in the second half?”

Who is this “we,” DJ? We stink so bad that I don’t get too mad about that. However, it is still quite weird.

My favorite part about the GOTW broadcast is that they are littered with advertisers who don’t have businesses anywhere near our markets. We don’t have Mellow Mushroom pizza places, we have real pizzarias. We don’t have Popeye’s Chicken and we also don’t have any relationship with the Ford Dealers of Greater Mecklenburg County, or whatever the hell they are called?

It’s just very weird place to be all the way around. It’s definitely just a totally different culture. I’m sure we will eventually settle in, but that’s probably still years and years away.

I'd be all for a rule saying no U(sic)GA grads on the ACC Network. That'd be super illegal though. But it is disappointing to see them choose a Gagger as sideline reporter. Roddy Jones is getting paid by ESPN to travel now every week as a sideline reporter or it would have been Roddy as the sideline guy. Also, if you're going to dip into the SEC for on air talent ... they better be quirky and funny like Bates. Nobody is going to confuse DJ Shockley for a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Well that's the problem with being the Paris of Appalachia. There are "real" pizza and other Italian places in NC, they just don't advertise, but I am certain there is something corny advertised in Pittsburgh like the carpet ads that originated on WGN Chicago.

Lauren Bowden should be the face of the ACC - she could also be the body.
