ESPN Classic Could Be Rebranded To The ACC Network
http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releas...agreement/

In the announcement with Altice/Suddenlink. The contract includes everything but ESPN classic. This seems to go beyond the 2019 which means no Classic on tv. I think they rebranded the wrong Network. Do ESPN News really be on tv? That is the one doing the worst. ABC/Disney have ruined their lineups.

It's been a long time since ESPNClassic regularly showed...classics.

Was an amazing channel 10-15 years ago. They'd actually air obscure classics that had been buried in history back then.

Duh! Of course it it is a possibly. ESPN Clasdc is an e package channel on DirecTV and has been for a spell.

The majority of the stuff they air is/was cool, but $hit in the 70/80's isn't in HD and even at age 42, I don't watch much programming bin SD. Leave that to mobile, like Tiurner/Warner Bros. has done w/ old Hanna Barbera cartoons with digital streaming of Boomerang.

RE: ESPN Classic Could Be Rebranded To The ACC Network
ESPN Classic has already been dropped from s large number of cable systems, in favor of the content being moved to on-demand model. Obviously if it's still left anywhere, it provides a vehicle for the ACC Network to be launched via flipping the channel instead of adding a new one.

Between the SEC Network, ACC Network, and ESPNU, there is too much available inventory to justify a separate network showing classic college sports. The non-collegiate content obviously doesn't have a natural home aside from perhaps the overnight hours on ESPN and ESPN2. If you insist on a linear model, that content would be better served on the big four leagues' networks anyway; what little other content (like boxing) could then be relegated to the off hours on the ESPN platform.

The same factors that make sports valuable for live television hinder it for live television.

CBS sports was a College Sports Network. The channel showed mainly d2 schools since ESPN had a strangled hold on D1. That network fizzled out.

The assets could easily be shifted. However, I don't think cable operators are bound to accept the new channel.

And they don't have to change what they pay. They might have a choice to drop it or drop the payment.

They got $325 million from CBS for fizzling out.
