Memphis just needs to finish ahead of Tulane, ECU and USF to meet expectations. That's a pretty low bar.

UConn was down last year because of an insane number of injuries. Now that they're healthy we add back Alterique Gilbert (McDonald's All American) Terry Larrier (former top 30 recruit) Mamadou Diarra (former top 100 recruit). With Jalen Adams and the addition of some other pieces I really don't see this team finishing lower than 5. I kind of get the lower expectations but this should still be an NCAA tourney team.

I honestly think this will be the best all around year for the league since its inception. 1-2 Wichita St and Cinc battling for the top spot with anyone really in the 3-7 group as potential challengers (SMU, UCF, Uconn, Temple, Houston) with Tulsa lurking (Just feel like the other teams are notch better and not really a fan of Haith). 9-12 I feel like Tulane is making strides and with Memphis and USF as total rebuilds but may actually be improved from last year if they gel quickly. Then there is ECU. Should be an exciting race.

It should be quite clear that the AAC preseason poll was a snub job laced with jealousy. Fair enough, we'll earn the #1 spot. See ya on the hardwood suckas.

My reservations with UConn are this:

-Perimeter shooting looks to be an issue (again)
-None of the big men have played a single minute at this level of college basketball
-They lost to Wagner AND Northeastern with those guys last year (minus Diarra)
-UConn finishes post Shabazz are this: 6th, 6th, 5th

Quote:On Cincinnati being picked over Wichita State in the coaches’ poll:

“I was a little fearful of being picked No. 1, to be honest,” Marshall said. “I put myself in the position if I’m in the Missouri Valley again and we added a program and they’re picked to win the league, I would go, ‘Hold up, we play pretty good basketball here.’ That’s what every one of these coaches here is saying. There’s a new team moving up in weight class in our conference and they’re picked to win it? I wouldn’t like that.”

In other words... a jealousy-laden snub job. I pray none of the Cincy staff voted for themselves. Illinois State did that one year and it came back to bite them severely in the arse.

HAHA I have never seen so many fans this butt hurt over a meaningless preseason ranking. Although it does make sense because this fan base would probably take a KenPom title over an actual national title.

Pretty salty talk about a fanbase whose team has actually been within shouting distance of said national title this millennia. But I can see how you would want to attack the analytical metrics. They paint a picture you don't like. That painting looks pretty much the same if you use regular season or post season results as the medium instead, though that doesn't fit your narrative.

I'm still trying to find all the people you claim are upset to begin with. Seems like an invention of your mind.

Absolutely. I'm really hoping the league can pile up the wins in the non-con. Could make for a great Feb/March. Excited to have an interest in so many real basketball games that will have an impact on the league race and potential NCAA bids/seeding.

Of course it's "only me" laughing/face-palming at the AAC preseason poll... 07-coffee3

I don't know where we will finish up in this league by the end of the year, but I do know that the entire United States of America is in disagreement with what the AAC coaching staffs' "think".

I really think this is a 4-5 bid league this year. WSU, Cincy, SMU, Tempel, UConn, Houston and UCF all will be in the running.

My apologies for the statement about the fan base. After further review it appears that coldblooded is alone in his reaction.

Re: analytics

Don't you think most fan bases side with whatever fits their narrative best?

Here is one fact about WSU: they didn't beat a single NCAAT at large team during the regular season.

Here is another: they finished 8th (I think) in Kenpom.

I don't think it's irrational for me to be skeptical about WSU this coming year as a top 5 team (and being better than UC), considering they lost to every good team they played except Dayton.

Likewise, I can see how you all are incredibly excited about your squad this year (minus the injury concerns). 8th in Kenpom is impressive and goes to show how dominant WSU was in the MVC. I for one am excited to see how that translates to the AAC, but hopefully it's not at the expense of a UC conference title.

I have another fact about WSU:

9-4 in the NCAA's in the last 4 visits.

The Shockers eat skeptics for breakfast.

I hope that is the case. I'd like to see an all out brawl every night. I fear though that it may end up like volleyball. It's amazing how preseason bluster can turn into 03-hissyfit. The Shockers are a proven commodity; I can assure you they will bring a high level of play into this league.

^^^ This will be the reality for basketball if last year's AAC shows up this year. Everybody's game needs to step up. The only team I can legitimately count on to challenge the Shockers this year is Cincy. If it's just us two with everybody else floundering in the wilderness we will be VERY lucky to get 3 bids. Fill your gyms - support your teams. We paid a lot of money to get into this league - we have a vested interest in your success.
