School first, football second. A partial qualifier doesn’t even deserve to be at a university because the standards are ridiculously low.

RE: Recruiting spotcheck
FIU just jumped to 5th overnight with (4) on the list still to be rated. Though these four are rated 3*'s on other site's, if you just give them our average points so far, FIU would jump to 2nd. Not bad with ten still to hand out.

Also, WKU is about out of scholly's, while most everyone else is in the mid-teens. At the end of the day, you'll probably be able to throw a blanket over the top 7 or so (unless (F)ind (A)nother taps deep into LCU again).

UTEP accepts 99% of the students that apply. So in our case a partial qualifier would be accepted even if he wasn't an athlete.

PQ's can only be students and can't play sports until the ncaa says they qualify so it really doesn't matter. You usually have a few grey shirts that have to find a way to pay for their schooling while attempting to become eligible. They can't be coached and can't practice with the team until they are declared eligible.

There's a portion of UTEP's students that shouldn't even be in a university, athletes or not.

People wonder why we have a student debt problem (either that or we’re paying for it in taxes). Just looked it up, for UTEP 25% of incoming students are below a 17 on the ACT (equivalent to non qualifiers). There is absolutely no reason those students need to be at a 4 year university. Go to community college or trade school. A 17 on the ACT is elementary school level comprehension.

I think FIUFan is referring to 247's ratings. Rivals is missing many guys, while duplicating John Bolding. P.S., stay tuned for a big recruiting announcement from FIU later today. This class is going to be something special. 02-13-banana

That's a mistake by Rivals. What wouldn't be a mistake is if FIU lands Bolding's brother, Tayland Humprey. The consensus 4-Stars JUCO DL was considered to be the #1 JUCO recruit overall prior to the season, and now listed as the #6-8 overall and top 2 DL's in the nation. We are still in the hunt, and prior to everything unfolding recruiting wise, they mentioned they were going together to one school. That still remains to be seen, but we are crossing our fingers.

Go Panthers!

RE: Recruiting spotcheck
I look at Partials the same way I do Juco or Prep School kids. A vast majority go to Juco or Prep school because they didn't have the grades to jump straight into college. At least with Partialls, they pay their own way and can be on campus as a freshmen, making progress towards a degree.

Most partials do fine on the HS GPA side and have the diploma but mess up on the ACT or SAT. So we say they aren't worth our time because they screw up on a test that is given way too much weight to begin with in determining a kids future?

I heard Tayland was at USM last weekend. Doubt we land him, but glad to get that caliber recruit on campus.

And we got him! Tayland Humphrey, the highest ever rated recruit in FIU's history just committed to FIU today over offers from.....pretty much every big school in the nation. His brother was already commited to the Panthers. We needed beef and contribution in the middle of the line, and we feel with perhaps the #1 rated DL in JUCO we got it. Butch Davis is killing it.

RE: Recruiting spotcheck
I'm really excited to have Tayland Humphrey as a part of this class. His offer list is insane. As to my knowledge, he has the highest 247-composite rating of any G5 commit. In fact, FIU and Boise St. are the only G5 programs with a 247-composite 4-star commit right now.

In terms of average commit quality, it seems WKU, La Tech, FIU, and FAU are all on pace for some really solid classes, with Southern Miss and UTSA not far behind.

Only 4 more days until early signing day!
