From media day. Lots of talk about the game being fun again. Getting their legs rested. And then this one from Anas Mahmoud...
“It's not relief, but Coach P had a really strong personality over everyone, not just players but also coaches, even the University itself,” said Mahmoud.

"Playing for him was really nice in games, but practice was not fun. I didn't enjoy practice and I would rather just play games the whole year.
“But David Padgett, he's still young, he played for Coach P, and he knows what we felt like when Coach P was the coach. He tries all the time to make practice fun. He's sarcastic in nature, and he did not change one bit.”
Gee, players not liking practice? Didn't we all assume this? I'm surprised the players said it but not surprised that it's the truth. Different coaches have different styles, as long as the players are prepared I don't care what style they use. I did always think that Rick focus on such a low body fat count was a bit overkill. Let's see how they respond during games under Padgett.
Pitino's teams always had that killer instinct on the court and it may be because of the way they were taught in practice. It will be interesting to see if Padgett can get similar results from a less intense practice. Regardless, I think the players should keep these comments to themselves.

They said more fun but not easier.

I think one could conclude that this player thinks the practices are, at the very least, a little easier, based on what he says below:
"I would say the practice with DP has been really short. The most we've probably went is two hours," Snider said. "Probably with Coach P, it would go 2 hours, 30 minutes, which our legs are going to be dead. Sometimes we had doubles. DP, he saves our legs. We get in the ice bath and stuff like that."

I believe it was Jody Demling, who runs a Cards site, said that Snyder told him afterwards that the practices aren't easier. Take it for what it's worth. I think they were referring to less yelling & cussing, Pitino demanded perfection. DP is more friendly in his demands for perfection. NBA scouts said they were very impressed with DP practices & that was before he had assistants.
First exhibition game in the books. Looks like our offense is going to be WAY better but defense definitely needs some work. Padgett doesn't want layups either. You could hear him yelling "dunk the ball!" after every missed attempt.

Just to elaborate on this point here, there's no more 30, 40, 60 minute stints on a treadmill at level 10. This is what was meant by easier, fresher legs should help.

Should we now expect fat assistant coaches? After all, Pitino only ruined the players right?
I always wonder how Jurich thought the players could respect and trust a man without good moral and values. I would not have allowed my son to play for a man like Rick Pitino. His whole public image was faked, his marriage was a marriage of convenience, and he really only cared about himself. With that said, he was a great basketball coach in his day, but time was quickly catching up to him. Folks, honor and integrity has to be more important than just winning.
