Quote:The situation with Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators has deteriorated rapidly over the course of the 2017 season.
Even after leading the Gators to back-to-back SEC East titles, it never seemed as if McElwain had the full backing of the administration.
Now, according to attorney and agent Darren Heitner — a Florida alum — the situation may have reached a breaking point.
Heitner tweeted on Saturday morning that McElwain’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, is working hard to secure a buyout for his client and the Gators will likely be making a change regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game against Georgia:

Boosters asked to pull money for buyout and look for next HC? Who had Florida firing their coach first in SEC this year? AD and agent miles apart on buyout number.

Sexton is the toughest agent in the business. Florida is going to have to bleed to get out of this one.

Would be better gig than A&M.
Paul says Chip is a West Coast kinda guy. Thinks he's most likely to take a job over there than East of the Mississippi

I agree. But if I had to bet I'd say Mullen returns to Florida and the Tennessee chatter is merely cover. Then I think Tennessee needs to make a play for Fuente. Kelly heads to A&M where some West coast recruiting can happen. The problem for Arkansas is that there aren't any really great Texas coaches to hire. I think Charlie Strong who has strong ties to Florida recruiting and decent ties to Texas ought to get a look. I wouldn't hold Texas against him. Who has looked good at Texas these past 15 years?
I think Frost will head to Florida State when Fisher heads to L.S.U. in a year or two.

Not if Florida can fire him with cause. Sexton can threaten to take them to court, but it all comes down to what Florida 's legal team decides

Charlie Strong is a native Arkansasan, but, come on, Bert beat his Texas squad so why bother?

Yeah, there's been scuttlebutt that McElwain might have known more about this credit card fraud situation than he let on.

RE: The end is near:
If I'm Florida then I swing hard on Chip Kelly. I might miss, but then Dan Mullen might be a good backup option.
If I'm Mississippi State and I lose my coach then the first guy I call is Les Miles.
Arkansas? You know what I might do? I might see if Kevin Sumlin wants out of College Station. Right now, I think Sumlin is safe(miraculously albeit) unless he goes on another losing streak. But he might be tired of the back and forth. Honestly, I think Sumlin is a good coach, but something hasn't been clicking at A&M. If not then maybe Chad Morris or Major Applewhite.
If I'm Texas A&M and I lose my coach then I'm going to swing hard on Chip Kelly as well. If I miss then I might just take a long hard look at Matt Campbell.
Ole Miss? Just give the job to Matt Luke because only a martyr is going to want this gig with all the issues they've had lately. The sanctions will make it doubly difficult to recruit and it wasn't that easy before the slush fund days of Hugh Freeze. After 3-4 years and if Luke isn't cutting it then you can worry about rebuilding the program, but right now an alumnus is the best medicine.
Tennessee? I think Fuente would probably be the best choice although get ready to open up the checkbook on that.

Florida would be crazy not to go after Frost. He’s one of the up and coming coaches
Kelly isn’t a good fit for college

He was a better fit for college and the likes of Oregon than he was for his pro gigs with the Eagles and the 49ers.
