UTA is down four sports and missed the Bubas Cup championship by two points twice in four years.
You guys could compete if you wanted. However, winning in the Olympic sports just isn’t a priority, so you guys finish in the bottom half.
Hard to argue that point. Though it does depend which sports a school does not sponsor as to how many points are left on the table. But overall you observation is correct.
Haven't been paying attention much to this thread, so I'm late with the response.
We have or will likely finish higher than App in:
1. Both Soccers
2. Probably MBB
3. Men's golf barring a massive upset
4. Probably baseball and softball
5. Women's Tennis
When you don't count the 16 different running sports where a lot of the same athletes compete in that's 7 of the 12 Sun Belt sports we compete with App in that we'll finish higher in.
Last year it was 9 of the 12 (IIRC) and App still finished ahead of us in the all-sports rankings. I don't know where the idea comes from our non-revenue sports suck compared to App's. Maybe the way Bubba Cup points are calculated just sucks?

RE: 2017-2018 Bubas Cup standings - Completed Sports
I don't know if there is a perfect way to compute the all-sports Cups that about every conference does. There are a few different methods. However I do think it fair that schools that actually spend the money to compete in more sports not be hurt by fielding more teams. Nor should there be a reward for not fielding teams. By having more sports we do spread ourselves a bit thinner than other schools that have the bare minimun to maintain DI status.
I don't know all the details of GaSo athletics, but if App can field all the sports we do then I would think GaSo which is a bigger school could do as well.

3. Appalachian State (66)
4. Arkansas State (63.5)
5. Louisiana (58)
6. Texas-Arlington (56.5)
7. Troy (55.5)
8. Coastal Carolina (55)
9. Georgia State (44.5)

I'm not certain your post is relevant. I wasn't pointing out how Georgia Southern fared versus App, but the entire conference. Many in these threads say the Eagles entire program is at a disadvantage because they don't sponsor the full amount of sports. The fact that App does offer more is an attempt to deflect the original point.
UTA doesn't field three sports that get scored in the Bubas. Georgia Southern has two. UTA has 56.5 points. Georgia Southern has 31. That has nothing to do with the running sports. That has to do with the fact that the Eagles finished ninth in WXC, second to last in volleyball, tied for third to last in football and last in WIT&F. Do better in those sports and you aren't second to last in the Bubas.

Question, are we just going to give App State Softball 1 point now to get it out of the way, or are we going to actually make them play out the entire season first?

You may have noticed, for the sports that have a regular season and a tournament, I post the regular season points (since that is where everyone gets points), then the tournament points after it ends. Softball regular season ends on the 6th, so I should be posting that night.

Question: How exactly are points for tennis awarded? I notice that we beat App and State in both men's a women's tennis but still got fewer points than all four teams. Something right there is screwy.

Points are only awarded by the results of the conference tournament. Because there are ties in each round of the brackets, the highest seeded team is given the most points. In the case of the men's bracket, Louisiana, seeded #2, was given 4 points, Georgia Southern, seeded #5, 3 points, Texas-Arlington, #6, 2 points and #8 Coastal Carolina 1 point.

And seeding is based on national rankings since there is no head-to-head SBC tennic matches, though some schools do play other SBC schools each year there is no round robin play. Think Sagarin/RPI/CFP rankings based on W-L and W-L of opponents and such.
I don't know if SBC has every had round robin tennis or if this is something new with the addition of App and GaSo and CCU to control travel costs.

You may stay out of last. Little Rock has no softball team (no points), ULM and Little Rock finished virtually the same in indoor track and field (similar in outdoor?) and baseball goes by overall conference record, not by divisional finish.
