Would be worth another look, kid's a stud and definitely fits our spread/RPO offense. Shelby is 12-0 and has had running clocks in every game, and he's a big reason why...I believe he's close to 2,500 passing and 1,000 rushing and has over 40 combined TDs this year.
We essentially have 2 QB commits at this point (Bryant and Rodgers). HIGHLY unlikely we pursue.
I think Rodgers very clearly ends up at WR unless something happens to Bryant or he isn't what he looks to be on film, and Armstrong is better than either of them IMO (but I'm partial to lefties ).
I'm not saying you're wrong here. That said, Rodgers has on multiple occasions said he's coming here to compete as a QB. I don't know that he'd be saying as much without the expressed approval of the staff.
Also, bear in mind that we have an athletic dual threat QB that's RSing this year (D. Ridder). A pretty good recruiting strategy is bringing in at least 1 solid QB a year. A position flexible athlete like, Rodgers, works in addition to a centerpiece like, Bryant. 2 centerpieces is a bit much. That would make for potentially 6 QBs (albeit one of the older CTT guys would likely transfer out seeing the writing on the wall), which seems like too many slots allocated to the QB position. That at the expense of some other position of need.
Besides all that....idk that we ever even really made much headway with Armstrong.

RE: Football Class of 2018 Part Deux
Until, Mr. Oakes, shows up on our commit list on 247 my guess is that he's a PWO.
https://247sports.com/college/cincinnati...ll/Commits
Conversely, he's been looking for an offer to commit all summer. It seems like a PWO offer woulda been made by now. I always assumed he was waiting for a standard offer. If they were going to just give him a PWO offer seems like this coulda been done one of the many many times they've interacted with him.
I agree with the sentiment that it's kind of questionable to give a standard offer to someone who is so very clearly a project. I think he has the potential, given his pedigree, to grow and develop into a scholarship athlete. Just not at this point. Not over a seasoned JUCO kid that could come in here and join our OL 2 deep next year.

RE: Football Class of 2018 Part Deux
I'm more concerned about getting some big men up front than getting our 6th (or 7th) QB.
Moore
Trail
Ridder
Sopko
Bryant
Rogers (ATH that wants to compete for QB)
Armstrong (potential recruit)
One big man I am hoping we get is Lorenz Metz. Huge dude, crazy athlete out of Germany.

Thinking that Sopko or Trail, or both, will not be at UC next year.

Annnnd just like that there's smoke, per Mr. Rodgers' twitter, that he might be waffling on his commitment to the Bearcats. Bleh....
EDIT: Zdiddy513, just beat me to the punch.

Yeah, there is one easy explanation for having that many UK things posted all in one flurry.
Not only UK...he apparently has an official visit at Tulane scheduled on 12/15.

RE: Football Class of 2018 Part Deux
He was always going to be a potentially hard one to reel in. He committed without ever visiting, Clifton. Until we can get him on campus, and he reaffirms his commitment, it's probably best to consider his commitment as 'soft'. At best.
I wonder if the decommitment of UKs dual threat QB has, Mr. Rodgers, thinking he has a chance for an offer there....

RE: Football Class of 2018 Part Deux
With so many QBs here, I think it's more likely that he wants to go somewhere with less competition. Though recruited as an ATH or WR, he has made it clear he wants to compete for a QB spot. Even if Moore and Trail are weak, he would still have to beat out Sopko, Ridder, and Bryant.

RE: Football Class of 2018 Part Deux
I would almost rather have him than Bryant. Today's game is focused around athletic dual threat QBs and we seem to be sliding deeper into a pocket passer centric system.

FWIW, Rogers said tonight he's still committed to UC.

If you have no o-line, a dual threat QB can somewhat partially offset that weakness.

Dan Bolden picking up more CB's to UC. Oates is out Bolden is in. They could do worse at LB.

Hopefully he's not another Jenkinson. Athleticism is an issue with him at the moment.

RE: Football Class of 2018 Part Deux
I keep seeing Luke Tenuta's name show up. Is he related to Jon Tenuta (his gobearcats.com bio lists son Luke)? He's a good looking OL (6'7", 270). If he's related, would love to nab him but 247 has him favoring Vag Tech. Anybody know anything about him?

They’ve been holding him off for a long time. All of their other LBs must have fallen through.

We have hit the big time if we can put a kid on hold for 10 months pending a committable offer after the upper tier options fall through. LOL

I was thinking the same thing. He has committable offers to other schools, he must want to stay home.
