Bowling Green
The Dragons open the season against Bowling Green. There is a bit of a CAA connection there as they are coached by former George Mason assistant Michael Huger. He played under Jim Larranaga at Bowling Green, then coached under him at both Mason and Miami.

Like Drexel, Bowling Green is picked to finish near the bottom of their league. They have a good returning big man in Demajao Wiggins, a 6-10 senior. One of there other top players, Antown Lillard, is suspended and won't play against the Dragons. They have some promising freshmen and according to the coach the team is looking good offensively while still struggling a bit defensively. Expect a high-scoring affair at the DAC.

Here is Dan's take on the game... http://alwaysadragon.com/pregame-bowling-green/

Also, I am excited to announce that the Always a Dragon team will be on the sideline at press row for both home AND away games this year.

Honestly I have no idea who's going to win or what the score will be, but I'm just hoping for the opportunity to call this game the "Bowling Green Massacre". And I really hope that Drexel is not the team to get massacred.

Drexel game notes: http://drexeldragons.com/documents/2017/...df?id=8121

Bowling Green game notes: http://www.bgsufalcons.com/documents/201...df?id=7829

The projected starters from the BG game notes show all underclassmen, a junior (I mistakenly said Wiggins was a senior above), 2 sophomores, a redshirt freshman, and a true freshman.

RE: Bowling Green
I am most interested in seeing what lineups we throw out there and just what we look like in general. I do not think either scrimmage really gave a true insight as to what our squad will look like this year so I am excited to see which lineups get paired together and what type of cohesion we will have and how much depth we actually use. I fear we will use a lot of 4 guard looks and just get outsized when we do that. Hopefully our defense has truly taken some strides and we look semi competent.

I don't think the line-ups are that much of a mystery. Looking at the West Chester and Villanova games, I would say this is what the depth chart looks like:
1 - Lee, Isabell
2 - Isabell, Harper
3 - Mojica, Harper, Overton
4 - Overton, Green, Doles, Demir
5 - Williams, Myles, Kararinas, Perry

Either Lee or Isabell was always on the floor. I assume Harper would fill in if they were both in foul trouble.
Either Harper or Isabell was always on the floor as the second guard.
Either Harper or Mojica were always in at the 3, except for 3 minutes in the first half against West Chester when Overton and Green were on the floor together (with Lee and Harper), and when Doi was in at the end of Villanova.
The four was always filled by Overton, Green, Doles or Demir except at the end of West Chester after Overton fouled out and Mojica was on the floor with Lee/Isabell/Harper.
The five was always filled by Williams, Myles, Tadas, or Perry.

I really don't see this changing much unless Tadas keeps up his hot shooting, maybe he could see time at the four when Williams is in. Or perhaps Overton seeing more time at the three against bigger teams.

RE: Bowling Green
They are a very young team: 6 Fr, 3 So, 4 Jr and 1 Sr
This was their starting line up in their lone exhibition game:
G: Rodrick Caldwell So 5-10 175
G: Dylan Frye So 6-2 170 -> Apparently their 3 pt specialist at 40.2%
G: Justin Turner R-Fr 6-4 190
F: Derek Koch Fr 6-9 260 -> ETA All time Ohio HS leader in rebounding
F: Demajeo Wiggins Jr 6-10 240 -> Top 100 rebounder per KenPom last year

Team stats from last year really mimic each other, which I guess makes sense seeing that they were 249 in KenPom to our 250, and they basically play at the same speed, so should be an exciting up and down the court affair.

Seems like our starting guards should match-up fairly well with theirs, but I'm a bit concerned with our bigs and the heft that we'll be giving up if Austin gets into foul trouble and who the other starter will be in the post. This seems like a game where we'll need Tyshawn to give us some quality minutes and it will be a good test to see what we can expect from some of the new bigs.

I'll say we win a high scoring squeaker.

RE: Bowling Green
Just FYI for everyone: Alihan Demir will be eligible after the first five games of the season. After that though? 3 years of eligibility.

If he doesn't play at all will he get 4 years? Instead play tadas

No he already played a year of JUCO. Medic explained on twitter it was some NCAA rule violation in the offseason dealing with an international game he played in that the 5 games is coming from.

Josh Verlin reporting that Overton (from injury) and Isabell (suspension) will not play either

RE: Bowling Green
I guess Dan knew what he was talking about with the lineup rotation. I'm guessing it would be different if everyone was available but I think it is good that some of the new big are getting in there though.

Be nice to have Kari out there when we are this short-handed.

Rebounding is definitely going to be a problem this season. Hopefully this first game is not an indication of what the season will look like. Both teams are super sloppy with the ball.

Nice finish to the half. Great awareness to get that tip in to end. Definitely need to value the ball and take care of it

42-32 Drexel for those paying attention. Around the conference:

Elon trails Duke by 20 at half
Delaware is up 29 on Richmond at half
CofC is up 3 versus Siena at half
Hofstra up 1 over Army at half
Towson is up 1 over ODU at half
JMU defeated Bridgewater by 30

RE: Bowling Green
Though sloppy at times, not a terrible first half especially given the personnel situation. Hopefully Harper can return.

RE: Bowling Green
Gotta like shooting 50%. Shot selection was decent and we attacked the basket decently. The sloppiness and aggressiveness for rebounding can improve quite a bit. But a game against an equal quality team is still smart to gain confidence. Playing a hard schedule could have done more damage than good.

I agree with the scheduling. No reason to go overboard when you are not going to be fighting for an at large.
