Rod Carey vs. Winning Teams
Someone brought up possibly giving Rod Carey a raise and/or extension. I still think he still has to prove he can beat GOOD teams and win in the postseason.

Carey vs. winning teams:

2017 season: 0-4

2016 season: 1-5, plus loss against 1-AA

2015 season: 2-5, two postseason blowouts

2014 season: 3-3, postseason blowout

2013 season: 3-2, postseason blowout

2012 season: 0-1

Overall record vs. winning teams: 9-20 (31%)

RE: Rod Carey vs. Winning Teams
You're going to be hard pressed to find ANY MAC coach with a great record versus teams above .500 considering most out of conference games are against powerhouse P5 schools.

But hey, its always nice to have an agenda to try and get across.

Of those 19 losses:
2013 - BGSU and Utah State
2014 - CMU and Marshall
2015 - CMU, Ohio, Boise and BGSU
2016 - Wyoming, Toledo, SDSU, WMU, USF and Western Illinois
2017 - Toledo

By my count, 15 of those 19 were G5 teams. I don't have an opinion on Carey because he isn't my coach, but that's a bit off base.

RE: Rod Carey vs. Winning Teams
And most of the P5 teams we've been playing are not powerhouses. FSU and Ohio State, that's about it.

One thing about it - and not just relating to Carey - we never beat teams that have good, efficient, passing attacks. We're clueless. That goes back to the late 80s at least. I don't know if that's because we've always been running teams so our defense doesn't get to practice against an offense like that - but that's my theory.

So when we play Boise, or Marshall (with Kato), or BGSU with Matt Johnson, or Toledo with a Gradkowski or Woodside this year, we look like we don't know what we're doing against the pass. Thus, we can beat teams like Nebraska (with a turnover-machine QB), Northwestern (with a young QB), or Iowa (with a first-year QB). Meanwhile, a team like CMU manages to beat them. Or Ohio throttles Toledo after they shredded our D (though not as badly on the scoreboard).

I don't think that level of analysis really comes into the negotiations. It's some order of overall W-L, program stability, and academic achievement.

Maybe the other teams coaches should be fired so they have a winning record. 03-lmfao

RE: Rod Carey vs. Winning Teams
Would Toledo, Ohio, CMU, or WMU want Rod Carey as their head coach?

Carey hasn't been hired away to a P5 or high-paying G5 program for a reason.

No.

We win bowl games and are top 5 historically as a G5 team against the p5.

BUT

We cant win our own conference and suck midweek November annually.

No matter who its been we havent been able to achieve the greatest goal. Non MAC teams could care less about us winning titles tho. Most would be ecstatic with going 3 of 10 against the P5 and winning Bowl game every other year.

Martin's only win at Miami against teams finishing with a winning record was EMU last year. Might be adding CMU, Akron, and Austin Peay to that list, but it's still pretty unimpressive especially when you drop all your rivalry games.

The question is, as you researched this did you feel hard pressed?

Why is this on the MAC conference board? Sound like in-house fighting and belongs on the NIU board.

Because we are a MAC school and it's good to get other fans thoughts on Carey as a head coach.

honestly, I didn't mean anything against Carey when I said that. I really didn't! I meant it to mean I don't want anyone coaching our team other than Frank. that's all!

Really shocked Miami sits 4-7. Was expecting much more, feel you have had some really good recruiting classes. Maybe next year......

Record updated to include his 0-4 record this regular season vs. winning teams. Very likely to be 0-5 when we get trounced in another bowl game.
