RE: Coaching Hot Seat / Coaching Search 2017/18
From Nebraska press conference (lots of tweets)

Nebraska AD Bill Moos says he already has 6 coaching candidates. "I have had third-party people involved with several agents, representatives, search firms."

https://twitter.com/max_olson/status/934499913932660736

He does NOT mention Frost by name.

Bill Moos was asked if he’s offered the Nebraska job to anyone yet and gotten turned down. He said no.

https://twitter.com/NicoleAuerbach/statu...3205539847

“Scott Frost is a very good football coach. He’s in the heat of trying to win a conference championship, obviously a Nebraskan, and getting attention from other schools. Scott is somebody I am considering,” Moos said. #Huskers

https://twitter.com/GBRosenthal/status/9...3106573313

Bill Moos says coaches won’t be on the road recruiting, pushing against early signing period is a factor but “sky isn’t falling” if they push up against date and will take time to get it right.

Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell is a strong candidate for the same job at Nebraska, sources told FootballScoop.

In addition to Campbell, sources tell FootballScoop Moos has also spoken with representatives of Scott Frost and has vetted Justin Fuente as well.

Barring a landmine hidden somewhere under the negotiating table, this search is not expected to last long, at all.

Hot seat with fans...but maybe not so much with the athletic director. Report saying he's in a discussion for a "lifetime contract".

Land of 10 : Harbaugh/UM lifetime contract discussion

Per Football Scoop, "Jim Harbaugh called Brady Quinn’s report of Michigan giving Harbaugh a lifetime contract “fake news.”"

From Football Scoop

"Scott Frost: Kirk Herbstreit said this morning he “would be shocked if Scott Frost doesn’t end up in Gainesville.” Herbie must be hearing from the same folks we are."

So Nebraska may need to look at some other candidates. Here's yet another article on various coaching candidates.

Omaha.com

I'll go ahead and say some of these (listed in the article) are ridiculous but some are intriguing. Kevin Sumlin (probably when not if he's fired), Joe Moorhead (PSU OC), Pat Narduzzi (does he want back in the B1G?), Ken Niumatalolo (Navy HC, run the option at Nebraska?), Matt Campbell (Iowa State HC, hot name this year).

Nebraska would be made to order for the Navy HC, Nebraska loved running the option and with their lower level of talent it could be the equalizer they need

From Dan Wolken : "Scott Frost went back and forth on meeting with Florida this weekend; ultimately decided not to pursue the job."

This would be huge for Nebraska. Doesn't mean he's going to leave UCF but a potential competitor is no more.

Also from Wolken : Schiano to Tennessee. Ohio State DC Greg Schiano to be UTenn next HC.

New update regarding Scott Frost. He's in his office today as #UCF officials prepare to make a last-ditch effort to hold on to him. (VIP) https://t.co/6naoYF9bSf @juanctoribio https://t.co/6ifDPl9yt9

Link is paywalled but I thought the wording of the tweet was interesting. "Last ditch effort"? Sounds promising for Nebraska but don't believe it until the official announcement.

Don't think anyone thought Ash would be going anywhere but Rutgers extended his contact to 2022. Good job keeping a guy they like.

EXCLUSIVE: #Rutgers signed coach Chris Ash through 2022 season before season finale. Terms and why the timing of 5-year contract makes sense. https://t.co/UqvpUN41YJ #rfootball #njfootball #ncaafootball

Strange. Rutgers finished 4-8 and although it's an improvement over the last couple of seasons, it doesn't scream progress. I guess they are wanting to buy low on Ash assuming he has a big year next season by being bowl eligible. If he repeats at 4-8 or worse, the extension won't look very good.

Tennessee has reportedly contacted Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm https://t.co/KnBTskWkjB

I think any legitimate high end coach would be crazy to take the Tennessee job. A mediocre coach looking for a pay day would take it. But the fans are crazy. Schiano is a good coach who went to the NFL for goodness sake.

I think moving in the right direction is the important piece. Extending when you finished 4-8 seems silly but the athletic department must like how things are shaping up and where they seem to be going (aka...he's building a good foundation). I personally wouldn't have extended it now but I can understand it.

This whole thing is crazy. It would seem like many coaches would stay away (heard Matt Campbell of ISU, pulled his name out) from that search. But you never know, ambition and money can make crazy things happen.

Per Brett McMurphy :

https://twitter.com/Brett_McMurphy/statu...7770999808

UCF’s Scott Frost when asked about Nebraska AD Bill Moos' interest in him: "I'd be hurt if Nebraska wasn't interested in me. We're undefeated & I'm from there"

This is what I don't get.

Many people are talking about what a great job Tennessee is and how the Nebraska job is now middle of the road.

If you look at the records since Tennessee won the national championship in 1998, Tennessee is 155-97 while Nebraska is 171-88.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/nebraska/

Seems to me that if Nebraska is now "middle of the road" then Tennessee is no better, yet they get the love. If Nebraska fans are considered to be unrealistic, then what do you call Tennessee fans?

I expected to lose Jo-Mo but Mississippi State was not a school I was afraid of poaching him.

He would be crazy to take that job. TN does not product nearly the level and quantity of talent that ALabama, Georgia, Florida or Texas do which means the next head coach better have deep recruiting roots in another state because TN does not produce enough to compete in the SEC or most other P5 conferences

Frost should stay at UCF another year, they're a growing program and university with the potential to move up to a P5 conference. Right now he has the best team on the field in Florida which is saying alot, would be hard to leave that situation especially with the talent base in the state of Florida and the problems that Florida and FSU have had. Another strong showing and he could be in line for a higher profile program than Nebraska or Tennesee.

Under NORMAL circumstances you'd be right, but this year has the potential of having your home team (Nebraska) and perhaps FSU with openings.

That doesn't happen every year.

Sometimes you have to strike while the iron is hot.
