Movement on One-and-Done rule
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/21440...basketball

Looks like there's some movement to revise the one-and-done draft entry rule. The NBA commissioner and the Players Association executive director met with the NCAA's Commission on College Basketball on Thursday to discuss.

The NBA Commissioner seems very interested in finding a better alternative to the rule. One idea for a replacement rule is to allow high school players to enter the draft directly, but also require those players who do go to college to stay two years before declaring for the draft.

My first take is that this would be an improvement over the one-and-done. A handful of the best players would obviously go directly to the NBA, but many rushing to declare have only borderline NBA potential and would benefit themselves and college basketball by playing the extra year in college.

Whatever change is made will have be agreed to by the NBA and the Players Association.

RE: Movement on One-and-Done rule
It seems like the root of the problem is expecting 18 year olds to make an irreversible life decision based on advice from adults with their own agendas and best interests at heart (rather than the young person's interests). Will anything work short of giving players who recognize they made a huge mistake (by jumping directly to the NBA) the opportunity to quit Pro ball and return to school? I know that flies in the face of traditional thoughts on amateurism, but if the kid isn't taking money at the time he plays, why couldn't he play college ball again?

Closed because this is a duplicate of an earlier-started thread on the same ESPN article, at http://csnbbs.com/thread-833837.html
