VCU loses to VA
Just happened to catch VCU's game today. They hosted Virginia before their 102nd straight sellout. No wonder Mike wanted to go home. They're also playing UT who wouldn't schedule us.

Shaka Smart was coach at VCU and has no relationship whatsoever with Rice. Not surprising.

Speaking of Shaka Smart, his Texas team destroyed the Northwestern State team we play tonight on the road. And that wasn't a particularly impressive Texas team I saw at the UT/A&M scrimmage at Tudor. I realize Northwestern State has a 7th-year senior (!!) who is playing tonight who missed their first three games, but tonight is still a game we need to win if we have any hope of getting close to double digit wins.

VCU is going to be rebuilding this year a bit. They'll give Mike a pass for this season at least.

His last name wouldn't happen to be Keenum, would it?

No, it was either Flanagan or Chung.

Ramon Flanigan played QB at SMU in the 1992 season. He was STILL the QB for the 1997 season (a span of 6 seasons).

He is now the Director of Former Player Relations at SMU.

RE: VCU loses to VA
After watching VCU a couple times this year, I'm not so sure our defensive and rebounding problems the last few years were personnel related as much as coaching related. Not to say VCU won't improve, but watching them today against Marquette was very similar to our games under Rhoades.

Very off topic, but VCU just gave up 66 1st half points to an only OK Dayton offense. Rhoades never got Rice better than 180 in terms of defensive efficiency, so I'm sure there are going to be questions thrown around by VCU fans. I think this is just a transition year for them, and they'll be fine in the long term, but that half was a bloodbath.

VCU also just pressed with five guys as two Dayton players strolled up the court en route to a wide open layup. Really amusing play.

I think Evans will be an all American for them next year.

Think it'll depend on the level of his explosiveness. He was a bit hampered his sophomore year which forced him to take 10+% more of his shots from deep. Pair that with a torn achilles, it'll be interesting to see what his driving ability/quickness is like.

VCU loses to Richmond yesterday, and it wasn't close (67-52). And Richmond came into the game with its coach on a very hot seat, with its struggles this season (now 5-13). It's looking like VCU won't get to the NCAAs without winning its conference tourney, which is proving to be a big letdown for VCU's fans.
