So, I heard on the radio that the Lady Jackets are coming out to shoot some hoops with the Golden Her-ricane on Sunday. What I want to know is, when are you going to start running smack with GTS and OwlJacket? :D

Yes, the Yellow Jackettes are coming to town. But isn't talking smack about women's basketball a little weird?

OwlJacket and I listened to the game on the radio last night... too bad we lost, but it sounded like a good one! IMO, Tech has looked like a good team when I've seen them (at least, they've been good at home; beat UGA pretty handily too, and UGA is supposed to be good, though that may or may not be due to the $EC halo effect), so congratulations!

The WREK announcers were saying the come-from-behind victory is Tulsa's M.O., but don't be pulling that *@#&%! against my Lady Owls, 'k? Other than that, good luck from here on out.

Rice has had our number for far too long. This Tulsa team is for real, but they don't really seem to get their act fully together until they're down ten! They did that against Southwest Missouri State (a regular NCAA team), Oral Roberts University (cross town rival) and Oklahoma (ranked highly because the media just Looooove Sherrie Coale).

We only shot 33% last night and our two best shooters were, again, pretty cool from outside. We were forced to rely on an inside game, which generally found us having to fight off double- or triple-coverage down low. Jillian Robbins came through big time!

Once this team puts it real game together, those of you who have tasted defeat early-on will be proud to say you led us at one point. We're not one of the elite teams - there are only 5-6 of those - but we are certainly in the upper echelon.

Kathy McConnell-Miller and her staff have done an outstanding job of building this team into a very solid team with nothing but bright sunshine ahead of it.

Not exactly smack, Lauramac, but we have to be gracious in victory, don't we?

I was at the game, Laura. Tech is definitely a good team. That press is something to contend with. It had our girls confounded several times during the game.

It was a gutty, scrappy affair. That's what encourages me - we're willing and able to fight for a win when our shots aren't falling.

Bring on the Lady Owls! 05-mafia :D

Yeah, I guess you Tulsa folks *are* generally pretty good about that. 03-wink Sure wish it would rub off on some others, but that's another story. :D

The second half... was that the Jillian Robbins Show, or what?

You should be skeered. Jillian's elbows scare me and I'm sitting in the stands! None the less, I don't think she's hit her stride yet. She'll be a lot better come conference time. :D

Too bad it's not arena football season. The Talons games are the best thing going. It's like the State Fair with a football game on the midway. Drink beer, eat something fried and count the mullets! 04-cheers

Yeah, but you can do all that stuff at the Oilers game too!

Last Oilers game we went to, it was Christmastime and I needed to get out of the house & go see some hockey. I think it was vs. Topeka, but maybe it was Wichita? Anyway... the final score was 10-8, Tulsa won, there were something like 12 fights, the goalies' names were Pottie and Condon, and they had Shiner for something like $4 a cup. Yeah, it was low-point Okie Shiner, but at those prices you can just buy twice as many. That was a goooood time.

Minor-league hockey is a thing of beauty. 04-bow

But I'm tellin' you, dude... arena football makes minor-league hockey look like Sunday school. It's better than finding your Poison cassette tape in the back pocket of your acid-wash jeans.

Did I mention that they bring out the cheerleaders on the back of Harleys? And our mascot got a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct? :D

You'll just have to come to T-town in May or June and see what I'm talkin' about.

Unsportsmanlike conduct? What'd he do?

I saw an arena football game once in Houston... it was pretty cool. (This was back when they had the Texas Terror.) Sounds like the Tulsa Talons games are a whole 'nuther level of... er... "spectacle", though. Yeah, a sociological "spectacle".

Now you're starting to get it... :D

And the mascot got slapped for unsportsmanlike conduct toward the refs during a game. I think he said the magic words. :cuss:

He's also far and away the best damn mascot anywhere in any sport. Freakin' hysterical. I crack up just looking at the big goofy thing. Of course, several trips to the concession stand per quarter helps a lot. 04-drinky 04-drinky 04-drinky

Yep, I love me some Talons.

EDIT: Here's the mascot, Swoop.

I went to a Talons game one of my recent trips to Tulsa.

I spent many years trying to convince others (and myself) that Oklahoma was not a state filled with rednecks.

Two hours at that game undid many years of progress on that front.

Too bad you won't be in town for New Year's Eve. That goes for Lauramac too... I'm throwing a minor-league party, complete with a card game (of the poker variety, no doubt). If you want to come back to Tulsa, let me know...i'll invite you. LOL! :D

Too bad we won't be around! :frown: We're in Tulsa this weekend and Christmas weekend, but I don't think we'll be making the return trip for New Year's.

Cane Gang -- Swoop's helmet doesn't seem to fit quite right. It makes him look kind of special, no?

Of course, anything's better than the Tastee Freeze guy I found a while back. :D
