I'll go play in the woods behind my house with my son occasionally, but that's as outdoorsy as I'll get. I have a 78 year old black coworker who still goes fishing with her sister for dinner occasionally.

To each their own.

I had that conversation last night with a black pal of mine.......he gets it.....

In real life I've definitely seen and experienced otherwise. I don't hunt, but I enjoy fishing. I don't camp, but I'll hike.

I'm sure there may be some racist kooks out there somewhere, but the vast majority of outdoorsy people really enjoy talking about outdoorsy things with people who are knowledgeable or want to learn.

would you say southern black folk would be more apt to get outside than northern black folk? i have my theories, some of which i've already shared

there was a whole chapter in this book i read talking about introducing black folk (not exclusively black) back into nature. it's a, curious concern

i don't understand what you people mean by this media perpetuated fear of the wilderness. am i missing something? a television? not missing that. being in the woods is good. as an added bonus, you and your drugs have unbridled access to one another

I've never lived in the northern US, but I was raised in a rural-ish town in Quebec. The few black people around were fished and stuff. Black people everywhere go outside, it's just the activities that differ.

Now as far as wilderness is concerned, it's not a fear of the wilderness but rather a concern of the people who are "supposed" live out there.

Now with me--as I've said before--I'm not going to camp. I'm not going to pay for equipment just to pretend to be in poverty temporarily :haha: I'd rather go to the beach during the offseason.

so you can swim....isn't a novel concept

yeah man.....to each his own in pleasure (within reason)

at the end of the day, that's why America still stands tallest....
