Coaching Fire, Hire and Rumor Thread
Might be nice to consolidate into one?

Is Jimbo Fisher heading to College Station?

Good question, I don't know if Jimbo has Texas ties but he'd be a great hire for A&M. Methinks that Mississippi State is gonna be in for a world of hurt with Mullen gone and so many other SEC jobs open.

Meanwhile in the MAC, Kent State has fired/not renewed Paul Haynes.

I am told Tennessee was going to have a press conference tonight to announce the hiring of Schiano but canceled it due to protests. Unsure if it will be rescheduled tomorrow or if the deal has fallen through. One prominent booster wasn't happy with Schiano hire.

Derek Mason rumored for Arizona State by Dodd and Feldman. Don't think Norvell is a serious candidate, due to AD not wanting any connection to Graham.

Wonder if one of the Mississippi schools will hire Les Miles.

Woof, what a mess in Tennessee. What was their AD thinking??? Especially after the Gruden hype.

Holy crap...if this is true this would be absolutely insane.

Oh man, just read a rumor that Tennessee had already reached an agreement with Schiano and they'd have to pay him if they don't want him to take the job now. No idea how reputable it is, but I want it to be true.

Tennessee's talks with Greg Schiano stall, deal off

According to VolQuest.com sources, Tennessee's talks with the Ohio State defensive coordinator broke down on Sunday evening following unprecedented fan backlash on social media and UT's campus.

Miss State could take a flyer on an up & coming G5 coach and the alums wouldn't blink an eye. Let Tennessee try that and see what happens.

I think Tennessee needs a new A.D. because this yahoo obviously didn't get folks on board with this offer before he made it.

I've seen the word "unprecedented" thrown around A LOT. That could just be hyperbole but I'm leaning towards not for this one.

Yeah, with the amount of backlash...he's going to have to work his butt off to make even get close to making up for this. No telling if there is enough time. Unless he can convince Gruden to come, then all will be forgiven immediately.

Gruden ain't coming. UT isn't anywhere close to a good job. These dummies think they're getting anyone they want, like Petrino and Leach and get this...KIFFEN!!! WHAT?!? Do these morons even know they already had Kiffen?

Good point. The State fans I met at the St. Pete Bowl last year seemed very happy averaging seven or eight wins a year as long as they went at least .500 in the Egg Bowl and had a breakout season every so often. They were well aware of their institutional disadvantages versus the rest of the SEC so you have to give them props for holding high yet realistic expectations. Tennessee fans on the other hand seem hellbent on reliving the nineties and becoming an Alabama-esq program again even though that ship has sailed, at least from the perspective of an outsider.

On a related note, Ole Miss is taking the interim tag off of Matt Luke even though they already paid a coaching search firm. Though it's pure speculation, I wonder if they're in for big NCAA penalties so no one they liked was interested. Or maybe if that's the case, they know these next few years will suck no matter what so they'll just keep this guy a few more seasons as the sacrificial lamb.

This is one of the crazier coaching carousels in a while going on right now. Pretty entertaining to watch, though I wish Miami got involved and fired Chuck Martin...

KPRC Channel 2 in Houston is reporting that Fisher is going to College Station. 6 Year, 32 MILLION dollar deal.

He must be on thin ice at FSU. Big step down.

FSU will pay to keep Jimbo.
