Good, diplomatic message from Gantz. He doesn't seem thrilled with the opportunity the current staff is giving him but is a true Bearcat. Good luck to him - I hope he isn't kicking for the enemy next year.

This is certainly in play, as there are no restrictions (I don't think). It would be the ultimate irony if he ended up at ECU, irony not seen since Devan Downey transferred to S. Carolina about a month after talking smack about their program.

Sounds like the staff gave up on him. Why? Do they have a quality recruit lined up to take his scholly? At any rate, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth to see them run off a loyal Bearcat and quality player due to a nagging injury.

To me, this message sounds like a heartfelt goodbye to a place he fell in love with, not an "I'm getting forced out of the program" type message. Either way, I'm sad to see him go and am extremely thankful for the effort he shared with us in Red and Black for 5 years.
Answer to your first question...yes, they're going hard at St. Iggy's kicker (Matt Trickett) who had 4 makes from 50+ and one make from 60+ this year, and went 12-14 overall. Also, Gantz was in his sixth year here...he's probably going to get another free [graduate] degree somewhere else, and this is as much his decision as anyone's. That nagging injury caused him to completely re-evaluate his kicking motion because of the amount of stress it put on the hip flexor/abductor complex in his right leg (which is why I try to catch kids who kick like this early, because there is no good that comes from it)...there was no guarantee the kid was every getting back to the form we saw in his first two years.
Wish him the best of luck. Glad he got granted a 6th year. He's had a lot of health issues and scholarships are valuable the next couple years. Hard to keep a guy who can't get on the field. No knock on him at all for this.

Sad ending.
Well said. Only disappointment with Andrew is what might have been - and maybe what really happened these last years?
Good luck!
I think of Gantz and Boone in tandem. The first 2 years we thought Heisman and Groza. Then injuries and we are left with what might have been.
That's true. Seems like both kept good attitudes despite the obstacles, at least from what I can tell. Hopefully Gantz finds a good landing spot and has a great final season for a team that doesn't play UC. I'll be rooting for him.
