Where are you getting that number? Warren Nolan has you at 284 and the site I’m using (rpiforecast.com) has you at 212 with the Alabama State game not factored in yet.

Oh duh, you probably got it from BPI. BPI seems to be a bit more “off” than other computer rankings. KenPom (considered the leader for analytics) currently has you at 343.

Doing the math, I'm not sure your numbers are accurate. UC is at 284 now playing already the worst of their schedule, with 4 straight Top 50 opponents to come. Hard to see how that only jumps them up 14 spots in SoS.

Projections I’m looking at has Mississippi State finishing closer to 150 than top 50 and then I think you have 2 more trash opponents to cancel out the good ones.

Hmm. I don't see how Miss St doesn't finish at least Top 100, though Top 50 would probably be a stretch. The SEC is very strong this year.

The only trash buy game left is Ark-Pine Bluff. Cleveland St is projected to be around 250, and with us being currently at 284, those two games weighting against the other 4 wouldn't remotely come close to cancelling it out.

I know you are using a projection model, but I'd question the assumptions there.

KenPom has Miss St finishing at 18-12 and Sagarin has them at 15-15 which puts them at 85 and 139 respectively. Pine Bluff might tank the SoS even more than you're thinking. I might play around with the RPI Wizard later just to see the effect those schools have on the SoS and RPI.

We're renting an off campus arena this year while we complete a nearly $100 million renovation on our on campus arena and we make peanuts in the AAC. I would imagine money does play a factor in our choice of buy games.

Cry me a river about making peanuts. If this was a budget issue, then UC is not the program I think they are.

Meh, with the renovations it makes sense. I think the real question is if buying a bunch of horrible schools is preferable to the "reputation hit" of starting a bunch of H/Hs with mid-majors. If you're short on cash that doesn't necessarily mean you have to put together a horrible non-con.

The only way that happens is if Hitachi plays their cheerleaders against us. And that would be close. I can only assume that our players are either awful or are not trying. We won't win 10 games this year.

I actually believe it's not trying. I mean they aren't good either, but Tyson and Barkley alone with good effort even from a team full of scrubs should beat the dogs we have been playing. This is how the team was playing for Lebo right before he quit on them to have surgery, and then they actually showed some level of fight for Perry. I don't think Perry is the long term answer, but since we are broke I would be just fine with canning Lebo right now and letting Perry coach the rest of this year and if necessary a couple more years until Lebo's buyout is gone. It might not work out any better, but it certainly won't be worse.

It's entirely a budget issue. Trying create the illusion of having a P5 football program while getting AAC money. Do you know how much football costs? While university administration is simultaneously doing everything they can with academics to break into the AAU.

There is a lot more going on at the University of Cincinnati than just shooty-hoops.

Fair enough. I'll adjust my opinion of the UC program accordingly.

The bigger issue wasn't budget, it was scheduling. We had to work around NKU for this year for dates, and it made getting ideal buy games more difficult. We used to buy 300+ games in the Big East because that conference was a gauntlet, but since the switch to the AAC, we have had a lot more 150-250 games.

UC had 4 buy games to fill, snagged 2 bottom barrel games and 2 middle of the road games. That's not ideal, but it's hardly that big of a deal when you have Xavier, Florida, and UCLA on the schedule.

I'm far more annoyed at the tourney we are in than anything else. Added 2 300+ games to our schedule that we didn't plan on.

Yeah, these reasons make a lot more sense. That MTE screwed you.

Speaking of the quest for the AAU designation.. I'm hopeful with the economy picking up that UC can start growing their R&D again.

Money has been tight and our ranking has taken a little hit over the past few years (right around #50 or so). I'm sure the University is also working on the other criteria. Here's to hope.

Leave it to Wichita State fans to come on the board and pick a SoS fight with the most consistent program in the AAC.

It's way too early to be looking at RPIs much less a predictor. Some teams haven't played a road game yet and some have only played trash.

There's no way our SOS will be that weak. We've got Arkansas, LSU, Providence, Wake Forest, and St. Louis on the schedule and we only play one SWAC/MEAC type team (rpi killer).

Not sure if you’re following college basketball but LSU, Wake Forest, and St. Louis are bad.
