Why isn't GT playing this weekend?
There are 14 teams which have only played 11 games so far. GT could hook up with one of them to get that 6th win. They wouldn't even have to leave Atlanta (Georgia State)! If they find it hard to find a taker, they could focus on teams which themselves need a 6th win (ULL, New Mexico State or Georgia Southern). None of these are unbeatable for the Yellow Jackets.
What's up, GT?

Ga St might give Ga Tech too close of a game

Georgia State will only play Georgia Tech if they did it at Georgia State's Stadium which is a non-starter. Moreover going to a bowl game when you're that woeful means a terrible game very far away and that means losing money on it. So why bother?

Lastly -- just who do you think wants to play an option team with 2 or even 8 weeks notice?

Another option team.
It just seems like GT gave up on the 2017 football season at some point (when, IMO, it was still salvageable).

There is absolutely nothing gained being 7-6 or 5-7 or 6-7 instead of 5-6. Nothing. And having just gotten thoroughly waxed by the retards from Athens, I can *guarantee* they'd play in a funk for at least the first half. Granted, it would be quite difficult to distinguish the funk from the actual product. You think they're suddenly going to fix the problems in the next 4 weeks that were manifest for the entire season? That sounds like wild eyed optimism to me.

The extra practice gained by making a bowl would do wonders for the young players going into next season. Not to mention the experienced gained by an extra game.

Meaning Georgia Southern.
It would have been GT's luck to have scheduled Southern when they were struggling only to have to face them now when they have seemingly righted the ship and get beat.

Georgia State and Georgia Southern both have scheduled games, as does every other SBC team except ULM, who scheduled with Florida St., and Texas St., who has already completed 12 games.
GT missed out on scheduling either UMass or FIU, who ended up scheduling each other. Other options appear to have been UTSA, Houston, or South Florida, all of which are already bowl eligible. Realistically, UTSA was the only option this weekend.

The only potential opponent which has not yet qualified for a bowl is Florida, and they wouldn't become eligible even if they won. So, unless Tech were willing to pay some big bucks to entice someone like UTSA to come to Atlanta, they really didn't have any viable options.

Not sure who GTAA contacted...but they were trying as late as 19 Nov

And Georgia State will still only play 11 games.
I guess GA State did not want to play us that bad or they would have moved a 7 Oct game or 2 Dec game to their 18 Nov bye week to get the game scheduled, or push back their 2 Dec game to 9 Dec. of course I am sure GTAA did not bring $$$ to the table to get it done!
