Maybe you are missing a very valuable point. Please tell me what is the purpose of a bowl game? It most certainly want to bring in revenue to the host city, charity and/or organization. FSU/FAU will not do that. At this point the Independence Bowl is praying that FSU fans will be interested enough to come to Shreveport, LA. So, to hedge their bet why not go with a local college. Hattiesburg, MS is only 4 hours away as compared to Boca Raton, FL. I believe Boca Raton is a 15 hour drive. Which fan base is more likely to come to the bowl game? The Independence Bowl is already nervous about a disinterested FSU fan base showing up in Shreveport, LA of all places. You make App State and ECU fans seem reasonable.

The only reason FAU can get 1-1 or 2-1's with P-5 schools is simply: Dade/Broward County recruiting

Thats FIU which is in Miami-Dade county

FAU is in palm beach county about 40 miles north.

That being said recruiting in Palm Beach and Broward county is not bad either
about 3.3 million people and 70 high schools in a 40 mile radius.

Florida State & Texas would be an interesting matchup. I kind a wish they had done it. It’s one of the few non-playoff bowl games I would watch.

I love how generous you try to sound when you say play the other big three annually. Miami is in your own conference you have to play them.
If you guys tried to discontinue your game with UF the state legislature would probably mandate the game.


In any event not a matter of FAU finds finding it inadequate. FSU dodged a game with CUSA champions to
play a MUCH lesser team in the same conference. A team didn't even make the CUSA championship(3rd in the west).

Lets be honest there is no way the Independence Bowl would schedule a team that did not meet with FSU's approval.
I get it the idea of FSU being listed as an underdog in a bowl game and possibly losing to a 10-3 FAU would be embarassing.

You would think UF would want to schedule a 2-1 for thier South Florida fans. Especially since they’ve been avoiding UM for the longest time.

I think we will get a 2-1 with UF eventually but I think we will need to expand FAU stadium a bit. The UF fans would probably sell out the game by themselves in our current 30k stadium.
