Not really though. I mean just 2 years ago we saw Marquette miss it despite having 20 wins. Why? Because of a horrible OOC SOS. That's the easiest comparison I have.

Maybe something has changed really recently but as far as I've seen it's still not totally merit based.

But the thing is Georgetown is still one of the worst teams in the BE. They aren't even sniffing .500 in conference play. They finished 8th last year and did not improve their team. To me they are behind the other mid-level BE programs like Marquette, Butler, St. John's and PC. Heck DePaul might be better than them. DePaul has played a much tougher schedule and hasn't looked like the doormat they have been. They lost to Northwestern by 2 and missed like 12 FTs. Georgetown could very well end up in 10th place, especially since they haven't tested themselves at all in OOC. They might not win a single road game in conference play.

It really has. Used to be of course if you were in the power conferences and you were .500 you got in the NIT. Those days are long since gone. Now, first off there's only about 20-22 slots available after the conference champs fill slots.

It's not even that. With rare exception, top seeded teams never came from anything except CFBP conferences. It's rare that a Saint Mary's or Missouri State that just misses the Dance will be a 1-seed.

It's way too early to be discrediting Georgetown. Don't lose to the bottom of the conference, pick up wins against Creighton, Butler, Seton Hall, and maybe even steal one from Xavier and Villanova, and the numbers will jump.

Bad SOS and non-conference SOS and RPI isn't what it used to be for those in major conferences. Top 50 wins...play enough of those teams (they will), and win more than a few of them (they could), and the committee will look past the crap.

they changed that a few years ago where the 4 teams that were the first teams to miss the tourney will be automatically 1 seeds in the NIT.

How on earth are they beating the top half of the conference? A win against Villanova? They were the bottom of the conference last year and I see no improvement from then. The committee will not look past the worst SOS a major conference team has probably ever had.

Once again, Marquette won 20 games in the Big East a few years ago, and didn't even sniff the NIT.

Georgetown absolutely needs to get at least 11 wins to get in the NCAA tourney.

I don't know where that 11-win mark comes from...anyone who's hit 10 in the conference the last few years has gone to the tournament. Xavier had nine and it still went last year. And, yeah, that's nothing to sneeze at. Obviously, if they get 10 wins, maybe even 9...if the right teams are on there, and the wrong teams aren't, how are they snubbed, even for the NIT?

I get it about Marquette's awful non-conference schedule from 2015-16. But we shouldn't forget two games they shouldn't have lost: DePaul and Georgetown. And while Belmont wasn't a bad loss...they should have won that one, too. And let's also recognize the lack of wins against the top three teams in the conference. Oh, and the NIT had 15 AQ's. Marquette didn't get a sniff? A LOT of teams didn't get sniffs that year...it's kind of tough to when nearly half the bracket is reserved.

All I'm saying is...we haven't hit the conference schedule. Or, did I miss something and we went past it? It's likely G-Town will come into conference play at 10-1. Stay on the right side in the games versus DePaul and St. John's, at least a split with Marquette and Providence (and maybe Butler as they may not be up for it this year), and steal what you can at home...it isn't impossible. And I agree...don't lose to the bottom of the conference AT ALL. And don't get swept by the middle teams. Don't disagree they should get ignored if they fail to do the above.

Right side of the games against St. John's? The team who beat Georgetown twice last year and improved while Georgetown lost players? Lost of assumptions here about how good this actual Georgetown team is and how the rest of the conference is.

Xavier made it with 9 wins with a much better OOC schedule. They tested themselves and the committee rewards that. No way the committee rewards Georgetowns SOS which is the worst in modern history from a power program. Those on the committee know how bad it is.

Georgetown will be lucky to win one conference road game this year. They finished 9th last year and lost players. They are not better than last year.
