EMU wins on the road with an exciting win vs. Long Beach State.
I assume BSU and EMU are the top two teams in the MAC to date. I believe they open the MAC season.

I'd say Buffalo and Ball State are the top two. Eastern has only played two games against teams that are ranked better than 237 in KenPom. They've got one good win but also have one terrible loss.

Dear OUVan,
Rankings at this point are very subjective. Both Ball State and Buffalo have some "bad" losses, as well. Let's see how things play out in the next couple of weeks.

Shocker, Miami beats down NAIA Rio Grande to ensure a plus .500 record in non-conference play. Our domination of SE Ohio begins!

Sorry but remind me what Buffalo's bad loss was?

My guess is they think South Dakota State, but that is an RPI Top 100 team

Dear BullBoy,
That's the one. I don't know where South Dakota State is ranked today, but they are 9-5 record wise.

Note to self: If your team is named as favorites, run with it. If not, justify why those teams aren't.
Ball State starts with Eastern, Buffalo (a purported top team), @Ohio where they never win and @Western where it's always a battle so it could be a bad start. Who knows?

Ummmm, no they don't. Neither Ball State nor Buffalo has anything resembling a bad loss and they both have played significantly tougher schedules than EMU. Eastern has played ten games. Eight of those games have been against teams that are ranked #237 or worse in KenPom or are not D1 schools. Their next two are tough games so that may help their case but up to this point their schedule has been pathetic.
Buffalo's "worst" loss is to a South Dakota State team that also beat Iowa and Mississippi. And if that's a bad loss what does that say about Eastern since SD St. is ranked higher than EMU's highest ranked win.
Ball State's "worst" loss was to a Dayton team that needed a miracle to pull that off. And the Cardinals have played only two games against teams that are not D1 or ranked 200+. Plus they also pulled off the conference's marquee win so far this year.
I'm not saying that Eastern won't end up as one of the better teams in the conference. Only that it's ludicrous to say they have distinguished themselves as one of the top two teams so far.

Correct and Buffalo will continue it’s tough non conference schedule this week with trips to Syracuse on Tuesday and nationally ranked Texas A&M on Thursday. Hope neither of those will be “bad” losses.

Dear OUVan and BullBoy,
It's always interesting in trying to make points in one's argument, that certain things are left out. First, South Dakota State beat a mediocre Iowa and Mississippi. Neither school having a great tradition in basketball. Yes, it is nice to beat the big boys, but one should also be realistic of how good was the opponent. You also fail to mention Ball State's one point win over Valparaiso, a game that could have gone either way, and their loss to Bucknell.
As far as scores go, Is a twenty point loss really much different than a fourteen point loss?
I am not here to disparage Ball State. I am only responding to the arguments made by OUVan and Bullboy.

Buffalo does not have a bad loss. Ball State has a loss to Bucknell who has a higher RPI than EMU. Not sure what your point is here. You mention Valpo, they are bordering on the top 100 in RPI.

Dear george14,
Bucknell is 4-7 so far this year. If they are ranked higher than Eastern, someone doesn't know what they are talking about. You obviously have trouble reading or understanding.

No, you have trouble actually doing research. This is college basketball, not the NFL. There are 350+ Division 1 basketball teams, which means your schedule matters way more than your record. Who has EMU played? The best team they played is Indiana who is 6-5 and ranked 102 in RPI.....they lost by 20. EMU has 3 wins over non Division 1 teams, which if you actually researched, would realize those don't count for RPI.
That's like saying CMU is better than Iowa at football because we have a better record than them. It's just stupid and requires no thinking.

Dear george14,
Keep telling yourself that records do not matter. Why don't all the teams that have losing records make it to the dance? After all, they scheduled the best teams in the country, but lost them all. You are the stupid one.

You are making yourself look ridiculous.
1) I never records don't matter. I said your schedule matters more than your record. Which is EXACTLY why the MAC hasn't had 2 bids since 1999. We are a 1 bid conference because we do not play in a top conference and we typically don't have very tough non-conference schedules (not consistently at least). While you see the B10 and ACC routinely get 7+ bids.
2) Back to my point about research, there have been plenty of teams to make the NCAA tourney as an at-large with unimpressive records. I think MSU was 19-15 last season and made the tourney.
3) Stop twisting what I said please. A team that is 18-13 that consistently played top teams will get in over a MAC team that was 23-8 (look at CMU in 2015). You're acting like I think every team with a losing record is quality. My point was you need to look at RPI and BPI, especially this early on when you haven't even started conference play.
