Sure he can. Only now he does it in December instead of February.

And if you ever have a really good season they'll steal your coach November so that he can turn around and steal your recruits in December.
Exactly the stolen player just happens sooner.

Saban just complains, not sure if it is habit or does to mess with people's heads.

Only thing wrong with the early date is it isn't early enough.

The hoops early date is before most high schools start playing. Kid can sign and not have the recruiting distraction in season.

Football really should have gone with an August date.

Alabama will still get plenty of 4 and 5 star players... they just won't get them to gray shirt because the class is already full and they have nowhere else to go. Under this new system, hopefully every ranked player (even 3*'s) will end up actually PLAYING instead of backing up 2 other players on the Alabama bench.

I like the early signing period personally.

It seems to have limited the "hats" press conferences some recruits like to have. It also gives everyone a head start on who will be in the next freshman class.

ND signed all 20 of its committed recruits today. No defections.

Clemson signs 15, including four 5 star prospects and the top ranked recruit from the states of SC, GA, FL, and OH.

It was great for a lot of MW schools. Recruits still got some calls from P5 schools but without a firm offer from them they stayed with the MW school that recruited them. Got a few 4* players spread across several teams.
If the lower P5 schools are having better success then this early signing will stay.

"I think there are a lot of schools out there that were reactive," Bohl said, "and began to go through and look at the commitments that we had that had been posted and a lot of schools, several Power Five schools, reached out to a lot of these fellows. I’m not going to say whom, but our guys held their commitments."

I think that's what this change was intended to address. In the past, lots of players were strung along by the big football factory schools - without actually getting a firm offer. Then, on NSD, some of those players would routinely find out that they didn't have a scholarship, so they were asked to grey-shirt. Now those guys know which schools are making bankable offers and which ones are not by December. If the player needs to find a REAL offer, he still has 2 months to find one.

The same goes true for players who aren't REALLY committed - the schools have 2 months to find someone else to take his roster spot.

I loved it as well. SC had 20 guys sign, one player with academic work that we told to hold off, and 2 more recruits that we're waiting on.

It makes for a much more straightforward and business like process. I always hated the drawn out 6 week process of guys that have been committed for a year or more taking multiple visits

Not only that but it make the mid to upper P5 schools to actually have to recruit. One thing that previous BSU coach Pete had issues with is they would id a hidden gem and then a P5 type school would see BSU recruits and offer them a schollie without doing the hard legwork that BSU did.

A quick scan of the ESPN 300 website shows that most of those 4 star players either signed or remained uncommitted. Very few are still listed as having committed but not signed.

Florida State better hope a lot of those uncommitted players will come to Tallahassee. Theirs was clearly the weakest among the traditional powers.

The same thing happens to even schools like S.C. too. There’s a running joke on our board that any time we offer a guy that Tennessee will offer within the week. I think the early signing period helps everyone but teams in transition and staffs that live on poaching

UCLA, Florida St., Florida and Texas A&M all plummeted in the recruiting rankings with the waves of coaching changes in the last few weeks. USC did also.

Western Illinois had a great signing class on Wednesday ... according to the head coach who left Western Illinois and took another job THE VERY NEXT DAY.
