She certainly looks better than John Skipper. (An admittedly ham-handed attempt to get this thread back on topic.) Maybe we need a forum where guys talk about women? Hmm.....

LOL, this thread veered way off topic, didn't it? Maybe you should split it and send the rest to BotD.

I'm afraid it would have to be to the BotC (Babe of the Century).

If you guys are going that far back in time, you might as well mention Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Only a very old dude that roots for “ fake “ college football playoffs would have any idea what Mrs Lovey Howell might have looked liked from the 19th century

Natalie Schafer was born in 1900 and lived to be 91 so she was totally a 20th century babe.

But yes, I'm a very old dude who is glad to have a playoff, even if it has flaws. It is much better than the old AP poll where 2/3rds of the voting Sportswriters lived up North or on the West coast. Back then only the exceptional teams from the South and Southwest ever got voted into the championship and then only if one of the sportswriters' Northern sweethearts screwed the pooch. The Northern powers and West Coast powers concocted their Rose Bowl deal to avoid the competition.

So I'd say that in the great history of top division college football the CFP with all of its flaws is so far as good as it has gotten. It's just there are way too many children posting here who simply don't grasp that history began prior to 1990.

For the record, JR, from 1954 to 2000 the AP voted 27 teams from the South and Southwest as national champions, compared with 20 northern or west coast teams. I suspect any shift from that can be traced as much to changing demographics as it can to sportswriter bias. Lately, southern schools do seem to be demonstrably better.

And more than half of those northern/pacific championships were won by three schools - USC, Notre Dame and Nebraska.

And Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, and Miami probably accounted for more than half of those won in the South. Brand bias exists everywhere. But as an Auburn fan we were particularly burned in 2004. dismissed in '94, and ignored in '83 because we basically weren't flashy. We had the one loss to Texas and defeated the Georgia squad that beat Texas. It was the year of the exciting Orange Bowl victory for Miami over Nebraska. We lost the beauty contest.

I'd say Auburn became "flashy" when the biggest Heisman Trophy upset in history occurred with an Auburn player named Bo Jackson somehow edged out Chuck Long of Iowa in the voting. Long was supposed to win that. For those of us paying attention then it was a absolutely a stunner.
