I went through the comments under the ESPN article. The usual PROs vs. CONs. I get to see both here, on these threads. But no one is mentioning the factor that makes appearance at the very end of the article:

Kiffin is seeing that the school administration is at ease with his twitter hobby and, perhaps, allows him a far greater latitude than most venerable P5 institutions. So, THAT plus living in Boca (my best years I lived in Boca) and big bucks. So, why wouldn't he spend a few years coaching at FAU? I have no illusions about him fulfilling the whole contract, but 5 years would be fantastic.

It remains to be seen what the future holds, but I must say, hiring Kiffin has been absolute home run for that university so far. Nice job, FAU.

Somehow, someway, I also see it as a benefit to FIU as well. FIU seems to have their guy; and, although he is older, he's still a very good coach. Kiffin's deal may apply a little pressure to FIU to lock Davis up long-term.

This is good for FAU which is also good for CUSA in the long run.

Just think about it....even through the biotching and moaning we do from time to time. This league collectively has some pretty good coaching. Aside from maybe 2 or 3, they all look to be in place for another 5 years. Plenty of time to prove that CUSA is more than a "perceived" failed plan...

I certainly agree. We need to get rid of the F_U bottom ten days for good. I think both programs have fantastic coaching staffs in place. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Butch get an extension, provided he has another good season next year; however, I don't think he is as big of a target for larger programs as Kiffin is.

Yep...that's exactly what I was getting at, especially about him still being a good coach. And, being in South Florida, he is likely not looking to go anywhere at this juncture of life. FIU can provide him a nice paycheck for him to ride out into the sunset 10 years from now.

What are the terms???

As I said awhile back the conf conf should be thriller at any steps towards greatness for our Florida programs. Hopefully this 10 year deal will continue the improvements. Look forward to revenge next year.

Man, everyone loves FAU and FIU now. When not even nine months ago it was "ew, F*U, get those stupid idiots out of our pretty pretty conference." We don't ask for much from our members, just win eight to 10 games a season or GTFO.

Great for FAU making such a big investment. Now go win that bowl game :).

I know someone else already posted and asked this but I am also wondering if this contract with Lane helps CUSA with our current tv negotiations.

For the record, no one was opposed to the F_U's as long as they invested and took it serious. They finally have and this is a great thing for the conference.

I'm glad for FAU and their fans! Having Kiffin over in Boca is great for the Owls, as well as for the conference. We have our guy, and FAU has their guy as well. Gotta love it. Congrats!

FAU, FIU, USM, UAB, LaTech, UTSA, UTEP
