Sounds like he is having fun at FAU and likes to work with 'hungry' players vs 'entitled' ones.

Will FAU sign a contract with Tennessee at Knoxville? That would be epic.

Been there done that.
Sounds like he is enjoying coaching and having fun. As he stated...the grass isn't always greener...

Well key P5 jobs came open and nobody wanted his sorry butt. So Lane realized a 10 year guaranteed meal ticket at FAU was better than uncertainty. Besides he's always one mood swing or one dumb thing away from having to look again.

Agreed. And while he may not be aware of it, he's not good enough of a coach to be one of the P5 elites. Being at a good G5 is a solid fit for him.

That’s fiction.

Kiffin is divorced. His ex wife and their kids live in SoCal.

If success continues he will leave eventually, but I think he's going to hold out for a premier p5 job. Not a cellar dweller.

RE: Lane Kiffin signs 10 year contract with FAU
The FAU job has, most likely, been a humbling experience for him. He is no longer considered one of the top young up-and-coming coaches in football. He had several opportunities, with the Raiders, Volunteers and Trojans, and failed to meet expectations at each. At Alabama, he was regularly chewed out on national television by one of the greatest college football coaches of all-time. At this point, in a beautiful area, rich football recruiting base, manageable (but competitive) expectations in a very winnable conference every year, I think Kiffin is positioned for a couple of years - building back up his resume and credentials - before he not only considers, but is offered, another top P5 job.

I would think if the SEC is his goal (again), he would wait until Saban retires.

Both sides know Kiffin won't be there even two more years. It's just a way to increase the amount FAU will owe him when he does leave.

It would be nice if he stayed there and built a Boise State type of program there. He may have had his fill of the pressure cooker, money is not everything.

Kiffin should just stay at FAU and turn them into a destination program. He could get a lot of high rated talent to come to FAU. Especially if he would recruit a few cold weather states for talent.

The length (10 years) means nothing. The important part is the buyout.

The buyout if he leaves, the payout if they fire him.

But yes, either way, he's not staying anywhere near 10 years. If they have another year like this one, P5 will come calling and he's gone, if he never does, then after 3-4 years they'll fire him.

But either way, he won't last even half of this contract.

Kiffin got a raw deal at USC. He would have been a better hire for the Pac 12 than guys like Herm Edwards and Mario Cristobal.

Sounds like he'll be still be making over a million per.

Maybe not P5 money, but he won't have to clip coupons either....
