Boise State have a better kickoff time than the rest.

Washington State was mid to late afternoon Central time zone.
BYU in the afternoon CTS.
Wyoming late afternoon time zone because ESPN wanted to highlight Josh Allen.
San Diego State late afternoon.
Air Force CBS Sports/Arm Forces Network during the day.
Fresno State twice.

The rest were like pushed to late night on CBS Sports/ ESPN.

Since the MW has no teams in the Central Time Zone, why would they care about what time it is there? Again, stop posting your fiction; here are the facts you are to lazy to research.

Boise State had 7 games start after 8 Mountain Time.

Sat, Sep. 2 - Troy - 1:45pm MT (ESPNU)
Sat, Sep. 9 - at Washington State - 8:30pm MT (ESPN)
Thu, Sep. 14 - New Mexico - 6:00pm MT (ESPN)
Fri, Sep. 22 - Virginia - 6:00pm MT (ESPN2)
Fri, Oct. 6 - at BYU - 8:15pm MT (ESPN)
Sat, Oct. 14 - at San Diego State - 8:30pm MT (CBSSN)
Sat, Oct. 21 - Wyoming - 8:15pm MT (ESPN2)
Sat, Oct. 28 - at Utah State - 8:00pm MT (CBSSN)
Sat, Nov. 4 - Nevada - 5:00pm MT (ESPNU)
Sat, Nov. 11 - at Colorado State - 8:30pm MT (CBSSN)
Sat, Nov. 18 - Air Force - 8:15pm MT (ESPN2)
Sat, Nov. 25 - at Fresno State - 1:30pm MT (CBSSN)
Sat, Dec. 2 - Fresno State (MW CG) - 5:45pm MT (ESPN)
Sat, Dec. 16 - Oregon (Las Vegas Bowl) - 1:30pm MT (ABC)

However when you factor in the 4 traditional non conference games plus annual series with BYU and New Mexico St, I think they could probably pull it off with a favorable ESPN contract. The Summit would be a decent fit with the Dakota schools

The WCC needs to go to 11 the new ideal number.

Boise St might not be a bad a pick up in that regard. Close to Spokane for a travel partner. Has a solid history in D1 basketball.

exactly my point in your post. not one single home game with a traditional time start sat early afternoon except troy. boise is all in on better time slots for their home games. cbs did more late games then i thought but espn put almost all the boise home games at late starts or weeknights.

Of course, that CBS contract does not include Boise Home games.

Here may be some fodder regarding digital broadcasts.
The MW put out some superlatives and in the video gave some stats about the digital side of things for Fall 2017.

http://www.themw.com/news/2018/1/12/look...l2017.aspx or https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_conti...ly2HAtd0z8

Quick Notes:
Football on Facebook
In partnership with Stadium 6 Facebook games were broadcasted.
Total 4.5 million views.
Averaged 5,700 engagements (chat section during the games)

New MW Website
July 2017 to December 2017 reported a 12.4% increase in the number of sessions over last period of July 2016 to December 2016.
Average duration increased 31 seconds from 2016.

Football Media Summit
Content reached more than 7.5 million people.
Twitter video views increase 1,289%

Basketball Media Summit
Had 91,902 viewers during the event.

Additional details are in this thread if you didn't see the whole video.

The metrics used in the digital world don’t translate to ratings very well (at least for me). For instance, I would be curious to know how the 4.5 million Facebook views (combined total over 6 games) mentioned compares with a single game that has a million viewers per AC Nielsen ratings on Sports Media Watch. My guess is the 1million viewer Neison rated game (which represents an average over the game’s duration) is actually a much higher number.

I don't recall anyone ever playing more than 3 weeknight games in a season and a few schools will do weeknight on their own. Seems like any time Georgia State opens at home for the year they go Thursday. Arkansas State has experimented with Thursday night (with no TV other than online) a few times when a home game fell on the opening day of deer or duck season.

A-State has never had more than two weeknight games at home and I'd favor a hard cap of no more than 3 home weeknight games in any rolling two year period.

If the MAC expanded to 14, they could do 4 weeknight games a week for 7 weeks and nobody would have to play more than 2 home games during the week.

IF you have 6 home games. Now you move all to traditional start times and we make a safe assumption that the attendance will increase by a modest 3K a game. That is an increase of 18k on the season. Now at a modest $30 a ticket that is an increase of $540,000 for ticket gate alone without parking, concessions, etc.

I think Boise is thinking they could easily see more then the 18K increase in home attendance and they charge more then $30 a ticket. Becoming a financial no-brainer to kiss ESPN or CBS goodby and only sell select games that the networks would be willing to broadcast a more traditional times.
$$ versus exposure is interesting but with such late starts nobody back east is watching anyway

Sat, Dec. 2 - Fresno State (MW CG) - 5:45pm MT (ESPN)
Sat, Dec. 16 - Oregon (Las Vegas Bowl) - 1:30pm MT (ABC)

To nit pick - 6pm local time for a kickoff is acceptable for home game attendance, especially in September. So, Boise only had TWO home games that started in the late time slot (ie, 8pm MT or later). Oct. 21 v. Wyoming and Nov 18 v. Air Force.

If you dig a little deeper, the opposite from what you would expect rings true: Boise St.'s best attendance came in its LATE night games (ie, 8pm or later kickoff).

Fresno St. was a rematch of a loss the immediately preceding weekend, so that likely explains the poor attendance. Perhaps the opponent influences attendance more than the kickoff time.

Troy = 31,581 (day game)
New Mexico = 28,285 (early night game)
Virginia = 33,947 (early night game)
Wyoming = 35,565 (LATE night game)
Nevada = 30,858 (early night game)
Air Force = 33,030 (LATE night game)
Fresno St. (CCG) = 24,515 (early night game)

Fresno St. (CCG) = 24,515 (early night game)

You can throw out New Mexico and Virginia. UNM was on Thursday and UVA was on Friday and the opponent came from the other side of the country. These were 2 of 3 straight non-Saturday games.

Another explanation for the CCG attendance is that no one knows where the game will be played until 6 days beforehand and it's difficult to plan with short notice.

I believe the attendance totals among Saturday games reflect more on who was played rather than time of game. Wyoming was battling for the division title at the time and USAFA does transport a lot of fans and cadets to conference games regardless of how the season is going.

Schools in the MW are getting tired (pun intended) of the late starts whether it's at home or away. Boise State had a somewhat acceptable 7:30 local start at Washington State but because most BSU fans were watching from home (in the Mountain Time Zone) the game starts at 8:30MT and finally ends at 12:42MT in the morning. The late starts drastically reduces the exposure potential the schools can get. The BSU-WSU game was 10:30PM-2:42AM Eastern Time, at that time of night most everyone is in bed or about to pass out.

Another reason for posting the schedule was to point to all the errors in the following quote; every statement except one is false:
Quote:Boise State have a better kickoff time than the rest.

Here is what the visibility does for the MAC: a bunch of sports fans in other states know NIU and other schools play good football. I wear a fair amount of NIU stuff around MN and I get a lot of positive comments, many related to NIU football playing on ESPN.

This visibility has contributed zero in terms of donations, advertising, or enrollment growth and has destroyed the student, alumni, and local fan bases. NIU is averaging +/-11,000 fans per game.

Quote:In six home football games at Huskie Stadium during the 2017 season, NIU averaged 11,291 fans a game, down nearly 10,000 fans from five years ago, when the Huskies drew 21,000 fans in 2013.

http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2018/01/1...e/ac1hugc/

All that for a 6pm start time on ESPN 2. It's a disaster with no solution in sight.

If you ask me the next step for the MAC should be to make the ESPN and streaming experience on par with an NFL TV experience, with interactive channels, player interviews, Sky Cam, 4K HD broadcast, and very targeted sight and camera lines to hide the empty seats in a stadium. Let's get Oregon crazy uniforms, EWU red or Boise blue fields, WWF style rivalry promotions, and anything else gimicky that can be used to increase donations, advertising dollars, and TV exposure. Fan attendance is dead as long as the MAC makes teams play weeknights and that reality is inarguable.

Football is marketing and branding now as much as it is Ws and Ls, so let's have the MAC play the marketing and branding game.

Quote:In six home football games at Huskie Stadium during the 2017 season, NIU averaged 11,291 fans a game, down nearly 10,000 fans from five years ago, when the Huskies drew 21,000 fans in 2013.

Andy Reid said a big reason they drafted Kareem Hunt was because he saw him on ESPN all the time when he was at the office on the MACtion games.
