Yes. For teams that are returning a lot of their starters.

CFP rankings not impacted at all by SMU vs LA Tech in week 4. And that game would be buried in a sea of P5 games at same time.

This is a bowl game, and the only college football game played today, far more conference perception impact.

Since the CFP was created and current bowl agreements are in place. Not sure anyone can say the AAC has dominated in bowl games. But hey who am I are to argue with delusion over facts.

Yes. For example, I'm pretty sure that the hype for next year's Oregon team and their hoped-for Heisman candidate Justin Herbert will be cooled down a lot because of their bowl game loss to Boise State. Herbert threw 2 INTs, one of which was returned for a TD, and lost a fumble on a strip sack.

Sorry, apparently not hip. What is LULZ?

That bowl game results are discounted, explained away....hardly an AAC phenomenon. BTW, I don't think this is one and predicted SMU to lose, just laughing that the AAC is the first and only fan base to bring this about...far predates AAC.

To be fair, a ton of those losses are teams playing without thier coaches. That said, my understanding is the move to kick out SMU is underway. 05-stirthepot

You mean like WKU who lost their coach beating Memphis? 03-lmfao That being sad, losing a coach should not result in a 40pt Azz Kicking in a bowl.

Sure. A couple of years ago we beat Pitt in bowl game with David Gibbs, our departing DC, standing in as head coach. We also looked horrible for all but the last 10 minutes of the bowl game. I think we scored something like 31 unaswered points in the last 10 minutes to win it...but we also got incredibly lucky including recovering 3 consecutive on sides kicks. I mean you may think thae absence of Morris didnt matter...but I bet Arkansas thinks his presence makes a big difference. Lets be honest, if coaches didnt really matter we wouldnt be paying them millions of dollars now would we? lol...Helll--sometimes, if they are bad enough, we even pay them millions to go away.

SMU looked hopelessly inept tonight. Ive watched them multiple times this year...that team just wasnt the same squad. Hopefully thats not a harbinger of the Dykes era.

Nobody is saying it's "total gloom", it's just a pretty important conference-perception loss.

It's hard to maintain claims of conference superiority when you lose in bowl season. Fortunately for the conferences involved here, they have lots of bowls to turn it around. The AAC could end up 6-1, we'll see.

Isn't SMU missing their head coach. Kind of hard to expect a team to do anything when their head coach leaves.

I guess its the same excuse a P5 school uses against a G5 team also.

But doesn't matter anyway, the casual fan saw a blowout and thorough beating of a SMU team from the American Conference.

I mean if a team gets blown out with no head coach, it does not matter what conference they are.

It’s not life or death but it’s a loss for the AAC. Let’s quit with the excuses after every AAC bowl loss. A bad SMU team got crushed on national tv against a bad CUSA team....In a horrible bowl located in Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.
Attendance numbers anyone?

Um no, SMU had a head coach for last night's game. They just got the beejebus beat out of them. 07-coffee3

They did, but he might not have learned all the players names yet. I saw they had a grad assistant calling the plays. Does Sykes have a full staff yet?

Jumped the shark. You know Dykes wasn’t there until a few days ago. Lets not act like he has a full grasp of their offensive and defensive schemes, nomenclature, personnel, or staff (if you want call a bunch of GA’s and helpers a staff). It is what it is. The AAC is breeding ground for coaches so we’ll see this dynamic again. SMU was soundly beaten. Kudos to LaTech. That said, while not great, SMU is better than they showed last night.
