New conference idea
Would y'all be interested in this conference:

Liberty
ODU
JMU
Marshall
App St
Charlotte
Coastal
GA ST
GA Southern
South Alabama

It keeps the conference close for travel and would create a lot of natural rivalries. It's a young conference but teams with a lot of upside. There are large metros (Atlanta and Charlotte) mid sized metros (Myrtle Beach, Norfolk and Mobile) and passionate fan bases (LU, JMU, App, Marshall and GS). Getting these schools on board would be difficult but I think that would be my realistic conference of choice. It's also an upgrade across the board for sports. Thoughts?

I think the schools would listen due to increasing cost for travel.

RE: New conference idea
We have discussed this possibility ad nauseum for several years. It would require CAA to sponsor an FBS league (questionable under NCAA rules) or for schools to give up auto bids for 5 years or so to pull off. I am not sure that Marshall, ODU or South Alabama would have a stomach for it.

On the upside, it would be a sweet league from our perspective.

RE: New conference idea
Take out JMU and South Alabama and add FIU and FAU and it's a lot more attractive.

10 Team Conference
Liberty - ODU
Marshall - Charlotte
Southern Miss - UAB
WKU - Middle Tenn
UMASS (Football Only) vs ARMY (Football Only)

I would suggest an 8 team northern division
Liberty
ODU
JMU
App State
Marshall
Umass
Charlotte
MT

Southern division
FAU
FIU
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Coastal Carolina
UAB
USA
Troy

New conference idea
I’m all for a regional realignment but it will require cooperation between both CUSA and the Sunbelt. Any new conference will be required to have at least seven of their schools to have been together eight years, otherwise the new conference will not be eligible for CFP revenue or Tourny revenue.

I'm said it before but I think this is the most realistic of all the fantasy conferences. Everyone gets a few nearby schools and/or rivals. It has a pretty good recruiting footprint. It is a pretty clean conference.

IMO LU's natural home is independent but this could be a fun conference. This is a possible division breakdown.

North Division
Marshall
WKU
MTSU
Liberty
ODU
App State

South Division
Charlotte
CCU
Georgia St.
Georgia So.
FAU
FIU

Protected crossovers: Liberty/CCU & ASU/Charlotte.

I'd flip App and Charlotte. The north would be way too strong like that.

RE: New conference idea
I just think App State would rather be in the south as their top rival is Georgia Southern.

RE: New conference idea
Forget about the state and position of our program right.
Would you rather LU remain Independent or play in a conference?

I’d rather be a conference member.

For football I'd rather be Indy. For all sports I'd prefer a conference. I would like to be in a conference but I'm happy with Indy unless the conference is a big step up like AAC.

I want a P5 as our final destination. I'm not particularly picky about which one as long as we get into a Power conference. Until then, I want us in the position that helps us achieve that goal. I think independence is best for that, though the American is also good. However, we aren't getting into the American as it currently stands, so joining a future AAC would mean it lost key members.

I want a conference in order to play for a conference championship, have bowl tie-ins, have conference awards, etc. Independence allows us more scheduling freedom which lets us get more P5 opponents than being in a G5 conference would allow. If we're only going to schedule two or so P5, we might as well join a G5 conference when we can as we can schedule two P5 in a conference. I would rather play five give or take so that we look more like a P5 than a G5 and we get our brand out there where the bigger fan bases see it.

RE: New conference idea
My dream for LU athletics would look something like this...
Indy - football
Hockey East - M/W hockey
Big East - All other sports

More realistic...
Indy - football
Club hockey
A10 - all other sports
