Florida State not actually eligible for its bowl game
Due to an obscure rule, Florida State isn't actually eligible to play in the Independence Bowl this week. The game is going ahead as planned because no one caught it.

Reddit user discovers FSU isn't bowl eligible

The question I have is this...will more teams start avoiding FCS teams on their schedule?

Obviously, this wouldn't affect most teams, but for squads that might need that extra win then it does make sense to just schedule a G5 and not have to worry about whether an FCS school is keeping their house in order.

I would think the NCAA will be looking at this more closely because obviously they've been embarrassed. Of course, the simpler thing to do would be to alter the rule although that could cause more embarrassment.

Any long term impact from this?

The bowl committee knew damn well what they were doing. The sponsor absolutely wanted F.S.U. instead of U.T.S.A..

There will be no long term impact from this other than they won't be able to claim oversight next time around so they could job a little guy. When F.S.U. rescheduled their cancelled game they already knew what they wanted to do. Otherwise F.S.U. would have likely passed on that game and Jimbo would have been gone a week earlier.

By rules the game actually does count. This report only counted athletic scholarships & not all scholarships. This isn't the first occurrence for a situation like this.

Saw some tweets from Delaware State sources saying DSU meets whatever limit is required by this controversy. I’m not investing anymore time into this thought
