I cannot remember the details, but I heard a pundit (FWIW) state that the process he is using indicates reviving a version of the XFL.

The NFL is losing viewers and interest and perhaps he sees an opportunity worth the risk. The vested and entrenched interests will not be pleased and it will be fun watching and reading their reaction.

Right but that was before Jerry Richardson announced he was selling the Panthers. Remember McMahon is from North Carolina.

If he wants to restart the XFL he will have been planning for a while before now. His head won’t have been turned by the Panthers. Idk what he’s doing but he wouldn’t change his mind because of the panthers

He's about $2.2 Billion short for buying the Panthers.

According to ESPN: McMahon...filed details with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission about McMahon's sale of 3.34 million shares of WWE, equaling about $100 million. He did so, the filing noted, "primarily to fund a separate entity from the Company, Alpha Entertainment LLC, which Mr. McMahon established to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football." The filing comes after WWE confirmed earlier in the week that Alpha Entertainment, which was founded in September, was in fact an entity of McMahon's. Alpha filed for five trademarks related to the XFL on Dec. 16, according to records with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office.

According to Deadspin: Those renewed XFL trademarks were sometimes cited, but that was initiated last year as protection in advance of the 30 for 30. Anyway, if McMahon’s football project is is not part of WWE, it probably can’t be called the XFL; WWE owns the trademarks and licensing/selling them to the chairman might not look great.

The same company (Alpha Entertainment) filed for trademarks on “URFL” and “UrFL” later that month. The attorney of record, Christopher Verdini of K&L Gates, has done intellectual property work for WWE in the past. (Ultimate Reality Football League?)

Also in September but a few days before Alpha’s filings, VKM Ventures LLC, a company bearing McMahon’s initials and also represented by Verdini, applied for a few other trademarks. Those are “For the Love of Football,” “UFL,” and “United Football League.”

If done right, now is the time to challenge the NFL.

A lot of people are angry and turned off by the NFL - but not by football.

Anthem protests, games that are too long, too many damn commercials, a constant upsell by the league, lousy officiating, annoying and insipid announcers, tickets too expensive, merchandise too expensive, league thinks they own the fans (suing churches for showing the super bowl on large theater sized screens. WTH !?), etc...

Get rid of the over the top and gaudy logos and colors, use simple and classy 80's and 70's type uniforms and logos, have a hard salary cap, have the games stream live on multiple platforms for free, modest ticket prices, teams in the right cities, simplify and stream line the rule book, make replays quick, etc... and it could work.

RE: Uncle Vince selling 3.5 million shares of WWE stock
XFL back in 2020.

https://www.cbssports.com/wwe/news/this-...n-in-2020/

This is the XFL, again: Controversial football league set to return in 2020

Nearly two decades after it flamed out, the XFL will be returning to a playing field near you

As if 2017 was not crazy enough, 2018 has fired its opening salvo as the return of the XFL, a controversial football league originally founded by Vince McMahon in 1999, will be officially announced on Thursday, sources close to the situation confirm to CBS Sports.

While the return of the XFL will be made official Thursday, CBS Sports has also learned that the league is not expected to start up again until 2020. McMahon, who rushed the original XFL into existence without so much as a full slate of offseason practices to prepare for the league's inaugural year, has apparently learned his lesson from one of the XFL's biggest initial mistakes.

An announcement has been set for 3 p.m. ET.

I am not interested in minor league pro football, but perhaps competition will spur changes by the NFL to make it more fan centric.

Well, Memphis will never, ever, ever get an NFL team, so this is as close as you are going to get to major pro football. Take what you can get.

No one asked, "What will be the age requirement for the XFL?"

Why not let the 5* HS seniors who just want to play football into the league?

Allow them to take high school seniors. Pay them a nice chunk of change...... a hell of a lot more than they would get from "cost of attendance" stipends, let them utilize this platform to get into the NFL..... and you just destroyed college football.

Who would stop them? The NFL doesn't take them, because they have the luxury of no competition and can force them develop in college.

In many ways, I hope this league brings the NFL to its knees.

how's Tampa's NBA franchise doing? 03-lmfao

Memphis has two perfect fits in the Memphis Grizzlies (NBA) and Memphis Redbirds (Cards AAA team) as Memphis loves hoops and there are a LOT of Cards fans here.

I don't think a NFL, MLB, or NHL team would work in Memphis.
