Heart of Dallas Bowl
I know it's ballz cold and misting in Dallas today, but I can't help but wonder if the HoD wishes it had one of UNT/USM/LaTech playing instead of Utah and WV. There cant be more than 5000 people there total today.

That's on ESPN Events since it owns the game.

Agreed. I be there 3 other Mean Green fans right now if North Texas were in it. Hope the HOD bowl committee remembers this attendance next season when they are looking to extend invitations.

Neither team has a great record plus both teams sucked their last 4 games of the season. Most fans of these schools just don't care enough this year to travel to a bowl game.

FWIW.......the weather in Shreveport tomorrow for USM and Florida St is around 38 with a wind chill of 31 (10-12 mph winds) with a 12:30 pm kickoff.

Good thing that the storied football history of FSU and Southern Miss is present. I would expect nothing else but a sellout no mater the weather. After all they have "real fans" that show up no matter the circumstances or records, yes?
I say this in jest to be quite honest, but if its a sparse crowd you should be prepared for some blow back on the attendance front.

I wouldn't have traded our bowl for the HOD this season for sure. We lucked up during a mediocre year and got the right bowl.

Tech absolutely got the right bowl this year. And like other posters said, I hope the HOD and Armed Forces Bowls remember how well UNT, Tech, and USM have turned out for the games.

there is one thing that is a constant if you make the trip and get either the wrong bowl or the right bowl at our level.......
you can go sit where ever the hells bells one so chooses....
hell, at our home games today, seat assignments have become passe.....then there's hoops....
attendance smack.....both of us got something equitable for each fan base......that's what matters.....

The "Official" attendance for today's HOD is being reported as 20,507. Everyone I know that went to the game, and certainly those that watched it on TV know there wasn't more then 12-15K, and that is being very kind.
Should have sent North Texas to play West Virginia.

Attendance is 2nd to TV ratings. If the ratings are better than last year, ESPN will be happy with having it be P5 vs P5 again.

No bowl official was ever fired for getting signing a P5 tie. While Ive seen some evidence that pitting top G5's against one another can drive strong ratings--I still have not seen any bowl or network ante up big money to make some G5 champ vs G5 champ games happen (which is why Im EXTREMELY skeptical of there being any big money payoff for the "G5 playoff" that some in the press are pushing). I actually think a couple of bowls featuring the #2 and #3 G5 champs vs #3/4 selection from a P5 might actually have huge potential as a rating grabber. All the G5 fans would watch generally rooting for the G5 team---and I suspect a lot of P5 fans would watch hoping the P5 team wins big in order to confirm their theory that the G5 has no place in any post season playoff.

Yep. I think our chances would have been better against a WV than they were against a darn good Troy team.

Playing in an average bowl like the Heart of Dallas is a big letdown to any P5 team and it's fans.I doubt either team was very excited to be there. These small bowls must go after regional opponents or they'll fold, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. CUSA getting nine teams in bowls is a joke. Only the top four deserve it.

The top 4 are 1-2 so far, assuming FIU, FAU, UNT, and USM. We'll see what USM comes up with.

Marshall, FAU, North Texas, and Louisiana Tech are the only deserving teams. It doesn't mean much to get a bowl invitation these days. There are too many.

Yeah but Marshall and LaTech were not in the top 4 teams. That was my point. We'd really be sucking hind tit without those two wins.

I'd rank the top four as FAU, Marshall, North Texas, and Southern Mississippi. I know the standings say different, but that's my top four in CUSA. North Texas was very overmatched by Troy, but they didn't get embaraseed.
If it were the 1980's, only FAU, Marshall, North Texas, and USM get bowl invitations. Everyone else sits home. I miss that. Bowls used to be a very big deal.

Troy was a very good team, but there's no way you guys play better against West Virginia. It would be awful.

How could they fail to be excited, given a chance to visit a top vacation destination like
Dallas, Texas?
