The old Big East actually did fairly well in bowls. I think they finished either second or third in BCS win percentage

Clay Helton is cleaning up all the talent out West and doing little with it. He can, should, and did win the PAC, but he shouldn’t be struggling at all to do it. The coaching talent and player talent just aren’t in the same places right now.

Yes, from 2005 onwards, the 8-team Big East often derided as the "Big Least" had a 27-15 bowl record, including 5-3 in BCS bowls.

The Big East, despite its bad rep, was actually a very respectable Power football conference during its last 8 seasons (2005 - 2012).

It's not close. PAC 12 leads easily in bad refs

The PAC refs in the Wake Forest / Texas A&M game were pretty bad as well. They were ticky about player exuberance and were simply horrible with the no calls. There were oodles of holding incidents for both Wake and A&M and none were really called, but the worst no call of the game was in A&M's last possession on a deep pass when the Wake defender saw that he was beaten on the route and he simply tackled the receiver from behind, no call.

I won't say that it cost A&M the game because the whole game was sprinkled with ticky calls over nothing, and blatant no calls, so it was pretty even all the way around, but they absolutely stunk as officials.

I hope you jest. I think the Big 10 refs should handle the title game. They are usually pretty solid crews and this time they don't have a dog in the hunt. I would think that if Oklahoma wins in the first round that Big 12 refs would be out of the question for the finals.

Where did you get your info?

I heard their basketball conference was also pretty good during that time period.

I remember that Oklahoma/Oregon game a decade ago where they blatantly stole it for Oregon. Ditto Wisconsin/Arizona St 5 years ago.

OTOH, this was a "no call" in the Big Ten Championship Game:

Well the Big 10 had a dog in the hunt there the same way ACC basketball officials do when the Heels are playing. But your point is well taken.

Thing is, though, it behooved the B1G officials to make calls favoring Wisconsin, as Wisconsin was a sure thing to make the playoffs if they won the CCG, whereas Ohio State (obviously) wasn't.
