Was just flipping through and CJ has had 2 goals tonight in their game against DC United and it's only 34 minutes in.

RE: CJ Sapong - MLS Star
Too bad he couldn't get the hat-trick. He now has 8g/3a on the year, and if he can keep this scoring run up, he could have his best season at age 32 (previous best is 16g/5a). Also continuing to move up the all time scoring chart with 79g in his career.

Sapong nets #80 last night. He's a man on fire right now!

CJ is in great form right now. Nashville would be smart to keep playing him as much as they can.

Tied for #20 all-time right now (according to https://www.transfermarkt.us/major-leagu...ewerb/MLS1 after scoring his 80th). That's crazy. Shooting up through the rankings right now. #1 goal scorer and tied for first in points on Nashville. They're #5 in the power rankings on ESPN this week, so could be an exciting end to the season for CJ. Looks like there's a couple other really strong teams this year, but who knows...he could win a cup with a second team!

It's interesting that right now there's 11 players with 79-83 career goals, 3 with 85-89, none between 90-99, 6 with 100-114, none from 114-128, then 5 from 129 to 166. If by the end of his career he hits 101 he could (at least temporarily) be top 10, but there's some other guys racing up the charts pretty quickly. 9 goals just over halfway through the season. I doubt he breaks the 90 goal barrier this season, but he could definitely finish with 85 for so to put him in the top 14. I may just have to start watching some MLS...

CJ back on the score sheet this last weekend after a mini slump giving him 10g for the year along with 4a.

CJ had a brace (2 goals) on Wednesday night giving him 12g for the season with two games to go. That gives him 83g on his career tying him with LA Galaxy and Ireland legend Robbie Keane for 17th all time in MLS.

CJ netted his first of the year last weekend #84 on the career and continuing his journey up the MLS all-time goals leaderboard. It was a poacher's goal but they all count.

I was about to ask why it took so long into the year for CJ to score, then remembered the MLS season just began, while Europe is nearing the end.

RE: CJ Sapong - MLS Star
Tied for #15 all time!

Updated list of players around him
#12 Josef Martinez (active): 91 - looks likely to break records...CJ not catching him
#13 Carlos Ruiz: 89
#14 Roy Lassiter: 88
#15 Gyasi Zardes (active): 85
#16 Diego Valeri: 85
#17 CJ Sapong (active): 85
#18 Robbie Keane: 83
#19 Dom Dwyer (active) 83

Looking at some of the other guys (though honestly not knowing much about them), if CJ can keep it going for another couple years he'll likely settle into 13-15. Assuming Josef continues skyrocketing, he'd have to break 100 to climb into the top 12, which is probably unlikely at this point (although he did have 12 last season, so not impossible). No matter what happens, having a JMU alum in the top 15 all-time is amazing.

If he can bang in another 8-10 this year, then I think 100 is almost a lock. Even as a part-time starter/sub I think he can knock in 5-6 over the next season or two but he needs to put himself in that position with a strong year this year. He is definitely getting up there in age for soccer, I would figure 2 more years after this at most.

The real marker for me is Roy Lassiter and also Carlos Ruiz. Rocket Roy set the all-time goals mark Ruiz was an all-time heel and superstar in his time, to pass them would be outstanding. I wish MLS had its own HOF and not tied to the US Soccer which is more about the national teams and women's soccer than just MLS achievements, at 100 goals he would have a great case to be admitted or at least recognized as an early-on legend the way the 1800s baseball players are recognized in Cooperstown.

He could have had more if the other forward Mukhtar wasn't so selfish. He had CJ alone in front of the net for an easy dish off but instead choose to take a low percentage/bad angle shot himself.

Not an MLS game but CJ got a goal late in the US Open Cup game to tie the match and send it to extra time where Nashville knocked out Atlanta in with another goal. CJ is heating up.

CJ picked up goal #5 for the season and #88 for his career on Saturday, tying with the original all time leader Roy Lassiter.

CJ with a goal in his first game since being traded from Nashville to Toronto! Let’s hope he has a barrage over the next few weeks. 100 is still I reach if he can get hot.

Edit: turned out to be the GWG.

Ah, I hadn't even caught that he'd been traded north of the border. That's what I get for missing the Nashville game this week. Guess I have a new second-favorite team.
