I have heard it said that Louisiana s divided in three parts - North Louisiana, south Louisiana, and New Orleans. But I will let the LA natives rule on whether that is accurate.

Louisiana est omnis divisa in partes tres.

As a native of Louisiana I would say that's fairly accurate. The New Orleans area is really it's own animal way different than any area of Louisiana. The rest of the state can be split into two parts, North and South of the city of Alexandria. Alexandria is in the dead center of the state and serves as sort of a cultural continental divide. South Louisiana is what you think it is, Catholics and Cajuns with swamps getting more prevalent the further south you go. Lafayette area people are your stereotypical TV Louisianians. The North part of the state is more culturally aligned with East Texas and Mississippi. It's more Protestant and redneck with a little South Louisiana influence sprinkled in. North Louisiana still has bayous and swampy areas like South Louisiana but it's more hills and pines the further to the north and west you go. One theory I've heard to explain our cultural differences between North and South Louisiana is our highway system. Louisiana didn't have any north and south interstate until I-49 which didn't begin construction until the 80's and it only goes from Shreveport to Lafayette. Also most of the North and South US highways were two lane and a pain in the ass to travel until they were expanded in the last few decades. This kinda allowed North and South Louisiana cultures to incubate and sort of grow independent of each other with minimal influence.

No just the opportunity hasn't arisen. I lived in Alaska for 9 years and my first honeymoon was in Hawaii. I've driven across country several times and vacationed in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. My first wife was from Maine so that got New England covered. Hell, I've seen most of Canada having driven to Alaska. I've also taken a train to Seattle which covered the northern states. Married a girl from California and drove back here with her. Went to Philmont Boyscout Ranch in NM by driving and got the midwest states. Did Olympics of the mind in high school at Northern Arizona and did Grand Canyon there. Every time I've been to Texas always went up through Arkansas and Tennessee to get home.

But from WV those three state just haven't been on the route to or from where I've been headed. One of these days I'll get there.

I know there are five gulf states but I've been to Texas and Florida so I didn't include those. From the mid-atlantic/west they are just out of the way if not my specific destination and I haven't gone yet.

I've been to 45 of the fifty states, and West Virginia is one of the five I've yet to visit. Since I wasn't able to make the Tech/Marshall Championship game in 2014, I'm hoping we get you guys on the schedule soon so I can make the game and add WV to the list of states I've visited.

The home stadium was Stetson. The Bourbon Bowl was the pre-renovated Citrus Bowl. This was filmed pre CGI, so they had open casting calls to fill the stadium for the game shots.

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy"
I and my kids have been in several movies because of all the movies being shot here in Atlanta but here is the answer to your filming locations.

Deliverance was shot primarily in Rabun County in northeastern Georgia. The canoe scenes were filmed in the Tallulah Gorge southeast of Clayton and on the Chattooga River. This river divides the northeastern corner of Georgia from the northwestern corner of South Carolina

The Waterboy was mostly filmed in the Central Florida and Orlando area as well as around Daytona Beach, DeLand, Florida, Lakeland, Florida, and surrounding areas. The Mud Dogs home games were filmed at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand, Florida, home of the local high school team (the DHS Bulldogs).

I've been to 51 states ( if we count Mexican states).

Quite a few people avoid those states on purpose. If you add in Arkansas you probably have the 4 worst states for quality of life.

Take off the coast line and 5 miles inland and you can't tell a difference driving through Fla., Louisiana, and Mississippi...other than type of trees. As far as the drive I enjoy driving through Miss. going to Biloxi or New Orleans about as much as any area in the south...seems like once you get out of Tenn it;s a clean and peaceful drive. Other than going through Jackson. To me Ruston La. is more like Ark. than the southern half of the state

This was a totally benign and SINCERE post about land, buildings, fields, and filming locations.

Maybe some of the less easily triggered La Tech fans can answer the question.

My apologies if you weren't being a smartarse but you're definitely ignorant on what North Central Louisiana looks like. North Central Louisiana is located in the "piney hills" of Louisiana and looks nothing like the scenes from "Waterboy". Do this look like the movie "Waterboy"?

99% of the time if someone outside of Louisiana brings up the movie "Waterboy" to someone from Louisiana their being a smartarse.

Love this picture... one of my all-time favorite mountain bike trails just outside of Ruston.

Your comments are accurate. N. Louisiana and S. Louisiana are as different in terrain as they are culture and accents......like two different states. New Orleans is New Orleans.

Indeed. No need for this place to even exist if everyone used google to find out what they wanted to know.

I don't think so. I have a question for Marshall fans. I was watching "Deliverance" the other day and I was wondering.... Were any scenes in that movie filmed around Huntington, WV? Were any Marshall alums featured in that movie? I was thinking the ones who took a "liking" to Ned Beatty were from Huntington, WV and were Marshall alums. I could be wrong though. See how easy that was smartarse.

Well since that movie took place in Georgia, not sure the connection???

SCLSU Mud Dogs were actually a U LaLa parody, esp since Cajun culture was heavily referenced in the movie.

U of Louisiana cougars and portrayal of being a football power was a blatantly obvious LSU reference.
