Yeah sure. It's a major college football hotbed but not the capital. Birmingham has a much better case but there honestly is no capital.

Atlanta is the biggest melting pot for college football. Hard core fans of more schools are there. People in Atlanta are not only from all over the South, but from all over the country.

Birmingham has the highest TV ratings for college football in the country, but is more specific to the SEC, particularly Auburn and Alabama. People in Birmingham are largely from somewhere in Alabama or at least elsewhere in the South, but not as much from other parts of the country. That said, TV ratings are higher in Birmingham for non-SEC games than they are in markets much closer. (For example, a USC-Notre Dame game might get higher ratings in Birmingham than in Indianapolis, Chicago, or LA.)

Atlanta is also 5.5 times larger than Birmingham. You can literally find cars with flags from every SEC and ACC school during the Fall. Go into any work office and you will see college memorabilia on people's desk or people wearing sweatshirts/polos on Friday from every G5 and P5 school within a 10 hour drive of Atlanta.

Are there any other cities where two FBS programs exist across the street from each other?

...and both within walking distance of the CFHOF and the hosting stadium for the SEC Championship and one of the NY6 Bowls.

Rice/Houston was the closest before GSU moved up. Los Angeles teams are pretty close also.

Idaho/WSU were also very very close before Idaho moved down.

8 Miles. Think EMU and Michigan are a similar distance

Admin office to Admin office we are 1.9 miles. At their closest approach our campus borders are even closer.
