But we are not getting much money now. If We create a first class channel that is all about CUSA and give our fans an opportunity to buy in we may be surprised at how our fan base buys in.

If recruits can tell their family and friends they will be able to follow them one channel. And recruits and coaches can follow us on one channel it's got to better than what we have now. Better than that let schools provide coaches in their area free access to the channel.

All the games they don't pick up go on our digital network of the quality of the the OVC Digital Network. Forget about the measily $200,000 or whatever were getting in TV rights. The exposure on major networks is preferable.

Very interesting idea. Two reservations:
1. Bad game times, hurting attendance and income
2. Losing revenue that could be made through selling games on a CUSA digital network.

We did that in the CAA with NBC. No money but exposure. At our stage I think we need to do our own thing and try at the same time getting butts in the seats.

Shrug.

We've got to fill our stadiums. Why we keep bending over for bad TV networks is beyond me. We should all own the rights to our home games. If there's an attractive matchup, sell the rights to the highest bidder if you want, and get yourself on regional or national television once or twice a year. No one is watching Bein or Stadium, it doesn't pay, and it's hurting attendance.

Because the best recruits want to play on TV and pay attention to teams on TV.

Shrug.

At this point, we'd be better off giving away the media rights for free if an actual TV station would broadcast the games, as long as they were on Saturdays.

I still think we should go to Netflix or YouTube. Give the rights away for production costs and in return get "promoted" advertising and premium time slots (since Netflix and YouTube don't have a competing live service, we can actually play our games when we want to). The exposure would be worth more money than we would ever get paid by any other service. Traditional TV is dying. Conference Networks for the little guys are usually crap tier quality. Partnering with a major player is the way to go. The key is to do it before someone else does.

Not a bad idea. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube are all easily accessed by people these days. Especially kids. If we could put out a professional looking, consistently available broadcast Id be all for it.

Also, In addition to actual professional high def quality and better camera work/production I would like to see CUSA get real unbiased TV announcers. Radio is very different from TV. Overdubbing a (biased) schools radio feed over pseudo-decent video still screams amateur. CUSA should hire some regional people to call the games, even if they have to do it while watching rather than being there live.

Any word on that streaming app? Every other conference seems to have one.

If we can't get on TV consistently, at least get us that.

RE: New Media deal for 2018 and beyond?
My thoughts on the possible scenarios:
1. With FOX Sports RSN's moving to Disney, it most likely isn't being considered (at least for the 2018 season) due to the sale of assets taking at least 12-18 months to complete.
2. With ESPN now holding the rights to Navy's home games (with the exception of the "home" game vs. Notre Dame), CBS Sports Network could offer some of those slots to CUSA during rights negotiations. Or they will just increase the number of AAC games they sublicense from ESPN.
3. With Stadium and other digital services, CUSA will most likely decide to go with streaming its football and basketball games.

We'll have to wait and see.

Making our own digital network is great for our current fans. Working with an entity the size of YouTube or Netflix would allow us to grow. Tons of people are cutting traditional TV out of their lives. If we are the only live sports on Netflix/YouTube then we get those views.

On the other side, the most money can probably be made by selling our souls to the also ran networks that no one gets or watches (BeIn, Regional Networks, CBS College Sports, FS2, etc.)

I don't have a problem with any provider who lets us start our games when we want. I'd like to see something like Netflix/YouTube work for us. Youtube carried a Rice football game last season and they did an incredible job. They were professional and unbiased.

I do not seem to be able to cut the cord. Most content that I like is not available through all these johnie-come-lately services and paying for cable AND Netflix sounds like a bad idea.

Perhaps, but if a recruit is choosing between ECU and Marshall for example, the better TV schedule may very well be the difference. I love being able to go to a sports bar and watch my team play while having some food and drinks and chat about the game with other patrons. I would think recruits parents would feel similarly.

For sure. This conference needs to figure something out, because times are bad. Real bad.

Personally, I really like Stadium broadcasts. I'd like to see all of our content be on ESPN3 and Stadium with those streams also being available on Facebook and Twitter. Obviously I'd love to be on ESPN or Fox Sports for everything, but I'm being realistic.
