Nothing public yet. But is supposed to be a 7500 seat convocation center.

I know you joking but some truth to this....We already have the land dont have the cash for the south campus that shows a new basketball arena. Maybe we need to tweet so the thUGA BOR gives us the money. Did not see where it is going to be used for a basketball arena thought is that just speculation?

With this new south campus extension, I love that my alma mater is the driving force behind the modernization of downtown ATL....I know the natives in the area are fervently against gentrification due to higher rents and living costs, but GSU is taking decisive actions to change Atlanta for the better. New grocery stores, restaurants, apartments, and retail stores are following GSU's lead in downtown. People will actually spend time at the Five Points after the billion-dollars makeover by a private corporation. This is an exciting time to move back into downtown ATL for young professionals. Now if the old farts in the state legislature stop derailing the plans to improve and expand our subway system...the future is near.

There aren't that many against. And the real estate was going up regardless. You have a Super Kroger on Glenwood and now a new shopping and condo complex going in on Memorial with a Publix and AMC Theatre. There is a new house just built on Little Street less than a mile from the stadium and it's listed at $600k.

As for subway, that isn't happening. Light rail is slow going as well. But they might get a clue when we lose Amazon HQ2.

I agree. All 1st-rate cities have extensive subway systems. Amazon specifically said that they want to establish their HQ in a city with great subway system....hmmm wonder why. Some Atlanta senators are so backward-minded, it makes me cringe.

Well either we get it and they have to shorten all of their transportation initiative timelines or we don't and they finally get a clue.

"It [budget] also includes $5 million to design a convocation center that Georgia State University wants to build. The $80 million project will include classrooms, convocation facilities and provide a new home court for GSU’s basketball team."

state approved, money secured, and land purchased. Expect the construction to begin around 2019. The first game at the new convocation center may happen around 2021.

I wonder what $80mil can buy. Our law library was around $60mil.

personally, I'd love for GSU to continue the theme of modern architecture. Something like this..

For Southern or State? Our convocation center is absolutely going to be a basketball arena. 2021 is my guess for the first game.
