Way too early 2018 football rankings
USA Today has it's "way too early" football rankings out today. Only 2 G5 programs are ranked with Boise St at 14 while FAU is 21. Hopefully these stay somewhat true come late August so FAU has a shot to make a run at a NY6 bowl game.

Too high for FAU. Boise ranking is good, I think they will make another run this year

They lost a great coach to a P5 program. Something a WKU fan can relate to as of late.

Yeah, I'm afraid you guys may have made a bad hire. It's early, but it's not encouraging. With all the good G5 coaches being poached by P5 schools, there will always be a lot of turnover at our level. It'll be very hard to find good coaches time after time to fill the shoes of the ones who leave. Hang in there.

Just doing a quick scan of their top stat playmakers on offense and all were either sophomores or juniors so unless the juniors declare for the draft they have a great core coming back. I didn't check OL or the defense so that could be a different story. It will just depend on how the players adapt/adjust to a new coaching staff and philosophy. They have a favorable OOC schedule on paper with home games vs FAU, Pittsburgh and FCS South Carolina St while their only OOC road game is at North Carolina who is coming off a 3-9 season.

We are recruiting and bringing in a ton of OLs, plus the majority of our players are sophomores/juniors and are returning. Some have declared for the draft, but we will have a strong foundation for next year.

Only question mark I see is how the players adjust to having completely different coaches and coordinators running the show. Would be nice for FAU and UCF to both be pre-season ranked in the polls. Would make for great TV.

I bet these rankings will be hugely different from the actual August rankings. Many factors, such as coaching changes, recruits flipping, pre-season injuries may yet come into focus.

They return 16 starters but none of their top coaching staff.
