Early look at 2018 week 1 football games
Here's a peak into week 1 of the 2018 season. Games are from fbschedules.com so if there's a mistake that's where i got the info from:

Charlotte host Fordham
FIU host Indiana
FAU at Oklahoma
La Tech at South Alabama
Marshall at Miami (OH)
Middle Tenn at Vanderbilt
UNT host SMU
ODU at Liberty
Rice host Prairie View A&M
USM host Jackson St
UAB ???? only has 3 OOC games listed but nothing for 9/1 weekend
UTEP host Northern Arizona
UTSA at Arizona St
WKU at Wisconsin

There's a good mix of P5 (5), G5 (3) and FCS (5) teams along with several CUSA teams are playing teams in week 1 who are facing FBS teams with a new head coach (Arizona St, SMU and South Alabama.
UTEP and Rice have their own new head coaches and both of those get home FCS matchups

As a note Rice has 5 OOC games next year because we travel to Hawaii. PVA&M was added for that reason.

So no bye week for you guys? If so that will be brutal. On a different note, the Hawaii trip will be costly financially but you'd like to think home games vs PVA&M and Houston along with the road trip to LSU will more than make up for it.

Don't forget USM......we've got FCS Jackson St. Also ODU is playing Liberty who is in their 1st season playing a full D1 schedule. And a quick and interesting sidenote to Liberty's schedule, they are playing New Mexico St in a home and home in the same season, Sept 29 at NMSU with game 2 at Liberty on Nov 24

Liberty will classified as FBS next year. There will be 4 FCS and 4 G5 games. It will be their transition year.

You may have noticed I addressed the bottom of our ranks in 2017, because I think they are most in danger of losing to an FCS opponent. I think USN should be relatively safe.

With our conference I'm not confident that anyone is relatively safe. Look at how FAU ended the season and I don't feel like anyone could see them losing to Buffalo. Yes it was game 4 but it still is one of those WTH losses looking back on it. And besides, USM teams are masters of the "TTT" moments.

UTEP vs NAU should show immediately if there is any improvement in the Miners for 2018. NAU was 7-4, made it to the fcs playoffs and then lost in the first round. They have lots of starters back and may have defeated last seasons UTEP team. If the Miners can finally score, they may have a shot at winning this one and a couple more during the season. Baby steps is all I'm expecting.

There were certain things that had influenced outcome of the Buffalo game. And even if we were to take that game at a face value, Buffalo were at home, and an FBS opponent.

Buffalo had a pretty decent team and finished 6-6. Their qb is 6'7" 245 and can run like a deer.

I've had that Hawaii game marked for a long time as an excuse to travel out to the Islands. It is easier to get airfare deals far in advance than what happens when your team is selected for the Hawaii Bowl Game.

FAU has a tough opponent as well. We're going to have to hope that the 1st week rust applies there.

Wisconsin's offense should be a bit better with lots of starters back but the defense will be missing a ton of starters. Maybe WKU can pull off an early season upset.

UAB plays Savannah State in our first game. It has not been announced officially but it was per my face to face convo with AD and now they are saying it at the ticket office. I think they are too embarrassed to announce it..... LOL

At least everyone not red shirting will get to play including the water boys.

Australia and Hawaii in back-to-back years? Those are both pretty awesome experiences for the athletes. Both are trips you remember for a lifetime.
