The American Forces Network is ceasing operations during the shutdown, meaning military members overseas won't be able to watch the NFL championship games tomorrow.

Also I didn't realize this but Air Force has had to cancel all of its athletic events for now (but not Army or Navy yet).

The product has sucked for years. I haven't watched even playoffs or Super Bowls in years. Way, way too much dead time. That's why I prefer rugby.

It would be amazing if college football was the biggest sport event in America like in the past.

"...Last week, NFL executive vice president of communications and public affairs Joe Lockhart resigned from his post saying that he wanted to spend more time with his family. That’s usually the explanation we hear from politicians who, for whatever reason, have to end their careers — when it’s really code for something more serious.
Lockhart should know as his background is political, including a stint as former President Clinton’s White House press secretary. In a season laden with damage control missteps and bad ratings, it’s very likely he’s just a casualty of the public relations train wreck the NFL brought upon itself..."

I like the respect shown in rugby. I've also really liked watching the sevens play. It's an abomination of the game, but my two daughters love watching Perry Baker run by people.

I love sevens. Met my son in Hong Kong for HK7s last spring. May do the same thing in Singapore this year.

That's a bit of a reach. Roger Goddell and Donald Trump are probably very similar in a lot of ways - very powerful and generally more disliked than liked, but each has their own loyal supporters. But blaming Lockhart for the ratings decline is like blaming Sean Spicer for Trump's popularity ratings.

Now if Goddell were to resign, that would probably be a sign the NFL is truly reeling.

Quote:NEW YORK — Ratings generally have been up for the NFL through the first two weeks of the schedule.

CBS scored its best opening NFL doubleheader game rating in three years with the highest-rated window Sunday on any network, Patriots at Jaguars and Raiders at Broncos in late afternoon. The network drew a household rating of 14.0 and an audience share of 28, up 1 percent from last year (13.8/27) in the measured markets.

For the second consecutive week, “The NFL Today” pregame show earned a double-digit ratings increase, up 14 percent, with a rating of 2.5 and a share of 7.

NBC is averaging a 13.8 overnight rating through its three games to date, down from last year’s 14.2. All three of the NBC contests, two on Sunday nights and one on Thursday to open the season, have been the top-rated show in prime time.

The most-recent Sunday night games, Giants at Cowboys, delivered a 13.8 ratings and 24 share overnight, up 10 percent from last year (Packers-Falcons). It was the highest Week 2 overnight for NBC’s Sunday night telecast since 2015.
NFL ratings generally up in first 2 weeks of 2018 season

No surprise if true. 1) NFL appears to have rectified the targeting rule they put into action in preseason to the point it looks like common sense is being applied instead of a strictly legalistic interpretation. 2) Anthem protests are not being shown and aside from 4 Miami Dolphin players and Marshawn Lynch - I'm not hearing anything about protesting this year. 3) We are not being bombarded with the head and brain trauma stories like in the previous years. NFL appears to have kept future stories under wraps w/network cooperation. 4) IMHO - the increasing popularity of fantasy football seems to be a shot in the arm for interest in the NFL games. IMHO, these factors stemmed the tide - for now.

all they had to do was keep it from being shown on the boob tube......who'd a thunk it?

we all love the game.....

however, I personally don't watch due to the commercialization and generic play calling due to the speed.....the NoFunLeague is simply boring to me....but that's just my take....

I'll bet the numbers as req'd .....that's it.....

I ran 3 fantasy football leagues in the '80s......to that, you're XACLY! correct....I simply don't care anymore....nor am I part of the target audience....

I haven't watched a game yet. Maybe someday...someday I might. I'd rather watch the G5 whenever they come out on TV.
